Lead Developer — Rebuild, Modernize, & Scale (Social Good SaaS, Remote)
Track it Forward
Headquarters: Oakland, CA
URL: https://www.trackitforward.com
We are looking for a lead developer to do a greenfield rebuild of our legacy SaaS app, modernize our mobile apps, and lead the tech effort to scale our app. You will help choose the language, build the technical foundation, work with our product manager to rebuild the app, and migrate all customers over.
About Track it Forward Track it Forward is the leading volunteer time-tracking application for nonprofits and schools. For 15 years, we’ve helped thousands of organizations mobilize volunteers and track over 30 million hours. We are a profitable, bootstrapped team of 4 focused on great work-life balance, high-impact work, and a fun, puzzle-loving culture (daily crosswords, monthly virtual escape rooms, and annual retreats). We are not a VC-funded startup. We grew organically, stayed profitable, and prioritize high-quality work and personal fulfillment without growth-at-all-costs pressure. The team is led by the original founder and developer.
The Modernization Strategy This is a structured, phased "small bang" migration—not a high-risk cutover or a strangler-fig migration. You will build a parallel greenfield system, extract legacy components step-by-step, and migrate customers over incrementally tenant-by-tenant while keeping operations running smoothly.
-
Current Tech: Drupal 6 architecture hosted on Pantheon, paired with two Ionic/Capacitor mobile apps.
-
Your Scope: Complete ownership of the technical architecture. You will partner with our product manager, establish engineering processes, and lead the rebuild from scratch.
-
Modern AI practices: We want you to be on the cusp of AI workflows while also balancing human guardrails to produce quality code.
-
Team Structure: You will be our sole developer in the short term, taking full technical helm as we scale.
Target Stack & Responsibilities
-
Core Tech Stack: Core backend/frontend rebuild focused on Python/Django, Laravel, or React. You will make the final architectural call with input from the CEO/founder.
-
Database & Storage Extraction: Deconstruct our legacy Drupal 6 / MySQL schema into a clean, domain-driven PostgreSQL database, and offload 100GB+ of media files to AWS S3 or Cloudflare R2.
-
Security & Isolation: Implement application-layer field-level encryption (AES-256 for PII, Bcrypt/Argon2id for passwords) and build zero-trust dev environments so contractors never handle production user data.
-
CI/CD & Documentation: Establish automated testing pipelines, clean API contracts, and clear runbooks so the codebase remains maintainable long-term.
-
Mobile App Maintenance: Maintain and update our two Ionic/Capacitor mobile apps using AI coding tools. Mobile is a small fraction of the overall role—you just need to leverage AI to keep them functional without being a native mobile expert.
Candidate Qualifications
-
Pre-AI Engineering Foundation: 5+ years of core software engineering and architectural experience established before generative AI existed. You hold strong first-principles opinions on database normalization and system patterns.
-
Proven Migration Experience: You have successfully architected and led at least one legacy monolith migration. You know what inputs and scope decisions keep momentum going.
-
Modernized AI Velocity: You actively use AI tools to multiply output, but retain strict architectural control, unit testing discipline, and manual code review standards.
Location & Remote Flexibility
-
US W-2 Tax Residency Required: You must be legally authorized to work in the US and maintain primary US tax residency (for payroll, contracts, and legal/tax compliance).
-
Travel-Friendly: We are 100% remote. As long as your primary legal/tax home remains in the US, you are welcome to travel or digital nomad—provided you can consistently hit our core sync hours.
-
Core Sync Hours: Mandatory availability from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST for daily team syncs and real-time collaboration. Flexible hours outside this window.
Compensation & Benefits
-
Base Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 / year (commensurate with experience)
-
Benefits: 401(k) w/ company match, Health Insurance, vacation, PTO, and holdiays
-
Culture: High autonomy, direct project ownership, and zero venture-capital growth pressure
How to Apply To filter out automated spam: include the most authentically human, non-AI reason why this specific role resonates with you. Specifically include a short Loom video of you in the “Why should we choose you over any one else?” question. This isn’t required but will sure stand out. Be authentic, no need to do crazy rehearsals, just be you.

Managed SIEM Detection Engineer
Expel
Headquarters: Remote
Are you a detection engineer who wants to bring real depth of expertise into a new and growing function and use it to deliver security excellence to customers? Expel's professional services practice is just getting started, and we're looking for the technical expert who'll deliver the work that gets customers ready to thrive under our co-managed SIEM model. You'll bring hands-on skill to a team that's finding its stride, help it grow, and have a real runway to grow into a lead yourself.
Here's the work. Customers come to us with SIEMs that should be surfacing threats but are instead consuming their teams: ingestion costs climbing year over year, engineers buried in alert noise and broken pipelines, and detection blind spots leaving real gaps. You're the engineer who turns that around: authoring and tuning detection content that satisfies real security use cases, closing coverage gaps, migrating detection logic off legacy platforms, and helping optimize what customers ingest and pay for, so their SIEM becomes a force multiplier again, not a management burden.
And because this function evolves right alongside our customers and the market, the work won't stand still. Expect it to grow into deeper integrations, automated and AI-assisted tooling, and security strategies our customers need next.
What Expel can do for you
- Give you a ground-floor seat in a new professional services function, where your expertise directly shapes the quality of what we deliver to customers
- Provide real runway for professional development as the function grows
- Put you on complex, high-stakes detection and SIEM problems across a wide range of customer environments
- Let you work across leading SIEM platforms, including Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, and CrowdStrike NG SIEM, plus emerging AI-assisted tooling
- Give you visibility and partnership across the organization, including Sales, Detection Engineering, our SOC, and Customer Success
- Accelerate your career by letting you own meaningful outcomes end to end
What you can do for Expel
- Deliver end-to-end professional services engagements, including detection strategy, MITRE ATT&CK assessment, SIEM optimization and integrations, SOAR playbook development, and custom log parsing
- Develop and validate detection content that satisfies defined security use cases, at onboarding and as environments evolve, with strong coverage and clean fidelity
- Optimize SIEM performance and cost by tuning detections for fidelity, reducing alert noise, and improving ingestion efficiency
- Contribute to Expel's professional services proprietary detection library, continuously improving our detection strategy and capability
- Translate detection logic between SIEM platforms and write custom parsers for standard and non-standard log sources, using AI-assisted tools where they help and validating the outputs
- Partner with Detection Engineering and the SOC to hand off environments ready for ongoing co-managed operations, and work with SOC analysts to sharpen the fidelity and actionability of rules and alerts
- Track the evolving threat landscape and turn it into new detection development
- Help the function grow by contributing repeatable processes, templates, and tooling that raise the quality and consistency of what we deliver
What you should bring to Expel
- Hands-on SIEM expertise across Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, and/or CrowdStrike NG SIEM, including architecture, data ingestion, and detection rule development

Senior Full Stack
Toggl
Headquarters: Tallinn, Estonia
URL: https://toggl.com/jobs/
We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join one of our Product Tribes, the cross-functional units that own the end-to-end experience for a specific Toggl user role. You'll join the Tribe building for managers, the people who plan work, protect margins, and keep projects on time and on budget.
You own significant parts of that experience end-to-end, working hands-on with product and design to ship work that matters. You'll do this as we build and launch Toggl 2.0, our consolidated planning, time tracking, and time intelligence product.
The salary for this position is €83,000 annually.
You can work from anywhere in the world as long as your main location is between UTC-4 and UTC+4.
The Role
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you own meaningful parts of the product end-to-end, from the data model and the API to the interface someone actually clicks: the technical approach, the quality of what ships, and whether it actually works for the people using it. You are accountable not for tickets closed, but for clarity, craft, and outcomes.
You'll work in the Tribe serving managers, across planning and capacity management, dashboards, and billable work. This is some of the most data-dense, interaction-heavy surface area in the product: schedules and capacity views, reports, and visualizations that have to stay fast and readable at real customer scale. The interesting problems live on both sides of the API here - the query behind a capacity view matters as much as how that view renders. You'll build with React and TypeScript on the frontend and our backend services (mostly Golang) and data layer (Postgres) behind them, alongside a product manager, a designer, and engineers who are used to owning their work and pushing back when something isn't right. In a tribe of 5 other engineers, your impact and visibility are high.
Our team meetings are scheduled between 11:00 and 16:00 UTC. Your availability and commitment to participate in these sessions are essential for effective collaboration and team alignment.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Ownership and delivery
-
Take projects from problem to production. Own the technical approach for major features front to back, break the work down sensibly, sequence it, and ship in slices rather than one big drop.
-
Make the technical calls in your area. Choose between options, name the tradeoffs, and decide without waiting for permission or escalating routine judgment.
-
Keep your work visible without being chased. Flag risks and slips early, keep the Tribe in the loop, and unblock yourself.
Craft and quality across the stack
-
Build interfaces people trust with dense, real-world data. Planning views, dashboards, and reports that stay fast, accessible, and readable when the dataset gets ugly.
-
Design the data and API layer those views depend on. Model it so the feature you're building now doesn't make the next three harder.
-
Own performance as a feature, end to end. Profile, measure, and fix the slow query and the slow render instead of hoping the data stays small.
-
Write code others can work in. Sensible components and services, real test coverage where it earns its keep, and a codebase that's easier to change after you touch it.
Working with product and design
-
Shape solutions, don't just implement them. Push on the problem, question requirements that don't hold up, and propose simpler paths when you see one.
-
Partner closely with design. Prototype early, spot the edge cases in a flow before it's built, and hold the bar on UX quality with your designer rather than after handoff.
-
Stay close to users and evidence. Join user tests, read the feedback, look at the data, and let it change what you build.
Raising the bar
-
Review code with intent. Give precise, actionable feedback that makes the change and the person better.
-
Mentor and interview. Help other engineers grow, and help us hire well.
-
Improve things across team boundaries. Spot shared components and duplicated work between Tribes, and raise it before we build the same thing twice.
AI as core leverage
-
Use AI tools extensively in your daily work for exploration, prototyping, code generation and review, debugging, research, and writing. AI fluency is not optional. It's part of how you increase your speed, depth, and impact - and you're expected to help the rest of the Tribe get better at it too.
About You
You will thrive in this role if you:
-
Have significant experience building and shipping production web applications end to end, and can lead major projects rather than just contribute to them.
-
Are genuinely comfortable on both sides of the stack. You're deep on one side and properly capable on the other, not someone who hands off at the API boundary.
-
Have deep, practical knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and modern CSS - including state management and side-effect handling in large applications.
-
Are solid on backend fundamentals: at least one backend language you know well, API design, relational data modelling, and enough instinct for query performance to spot the problem before production does. Prior Golang experience is not mandatory but you have to be willing to adopt it and become comfortable with it fast.
-
Hold an extremely high bar for quality. You know what great looks like, you notice the details others miss, and you don't ship work you wouldn't put your name on.
-
Have a knack for data-heavy product surfaces - performance, readability, and the principles behind a chart that actually communicates something.
-
Care about the user's problem, not just the ticket. You start from what someone is trying to get done and work back to the implementation.
-
Own outcomes, not output. You follow your work into production, watch how it behaves, and fix what needs fixing.
-
Thrive in ambiguity and move fast. You make confident decisions with incomplete information, adapt when things change, and course-correct without drama.
-
Are hands-on with AI tools. You actively use AI as a core part of how you build, not a side experiment, and you have opinions about where it helps and where it doesn't.
-
Don't need to be managed. You set your own direction, keep people in the loop, and ask for help when it matters.
-
Have excellent written and verbal English communication skills. You write clearly, explain technical tradeoffs to non-engineers without jargon, and default to async communication that others can follow.
-
Are eager to contribute to the engineering team's growth - code review, mentoring, and interviewing included.
-
Value transparency, ownership, and speed over perfection. You ship, learn, and improve rather than waiting for the perfect plan.
-
Nice to have:
-
Experience with TanStack is a bonus, and so is a real understanding of frontend caching and eventual consistency, we'd love to hire someone who's dealt with that tradeoff directly.
-
Experience with capacity planning, scheduling, reporting, or other complex B2B SaaS products.
-
Experience working with distributed or microservice systems, a basic understanding of infrastructure and infrastructure as code, and some experience creating, improving, or debugging CI/CD pipelines.
-
This Role Is NOT
-
A ticket-taker role. If you want fully specced work handed to you, this isn't the right fit.
-
A pixel-pusher translating finished designs into code with no say in the problem or the solution.
-
A role where you hand off at the API boundary. If "that's a backend ticket" is your instinct, this will frustrate you.
-
A role where quality is someone else's job. Toggl doesn't have a dedicated QA
team or layer: there's no separate team that will catch your bugs, write your
tests, or own your performance regressions. -
A place to work in isolation from users. You'll be expected to know who you're building for and why.
-
A role for people who need heavy process, frequent approvals, or top-down direction to do their best work.
The Team
We are a global team of ~80 awesome people working from over 40 countries around the globe. We hire globally, you work locally—in the heart of London, a beach outside of Río de Janeiro, or a quiet village near Florence, the choice is yours. Every few months we travel to meet up somewhere in the world and spend some quality time together. We place a huge amount of trust in our people, and we measure the outcomes rather than the work itself. Our values fuel our results.
What's Happening at Toggl
Toggl is at an exciting turning point. We're taking our best-in-class time tracking - trusted and loved by millions of users worldwide - and expanding it into something bigger: Toggl 2.0. One product that brings together time tracking, planning, capacity management, reporting, and insight. The idea is simple: better time tracking creates better data, which powers everything else. We call it time intelligence. We build with AI throughout, and we think it's a real multiplier for strong engineers rather than a substitute for them. The judgment, the tradeoffs, and the accountability for what ships stay with people.
