About the role
Contraline is seeking a Laboratory Technician to be a member of our research and development team. This person will play a key role in supporting Contraline’s hydrogel R&D efforts by executing benchtop experiments, maintaining high-quality lab operations, and ensuring reliable data, documentation, and organization.
This role is fully on-site, in our Charlottesville, VA HQ and requires standing for extended periods, working with PPE, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
Key Responsibilities:
Support day-to-day laboratory operations, including lab organization, cleanliness, supply stocking, and general readiness for R&D activities. Perform routine analytical testing on chemicals, polymers, hydrogels, solutions, and related materials according to established protocols and work instructions. Prepare samples, reagents, buffers, and materials to support ongoing laboratory experiments and development activities. Conduct routine maintenance, calibration checks, and cleaning of laboratory equipment according to established procedures; maintain accurate equipment logs and records. Document laboratory activities, test results, deviations, and observations clearly, accurately, and in accordance with Contraline documentation standards. Assist with inventory management, including tracking supplies, identifying low-stock items, receiving materials, and supporting purchasing requests. Support special projects, troubleshooting activities, and general R&D needs as directed by scientific and engineering staff. Assist with lab planning, workflow improvements, and training of new or existing staff on routine laboratory procedures, as appropriate.
Qualifications:
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field Prior research laboratory experience preferred Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills Maintains a high attention for detail and cleanliness, with a ”can do” attitude Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced R&D environment
