Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Float Pool Duration: 18 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Current nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to titrate cardiac drips Description: Unit notes: Auto Offer off of prescreen. Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to signing contract. There are two maximum attempts within 48 hours of offer. If a traveler fails, they will be sent home and made a do not utilize for six months. There is also a pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation. If a traveler fails the simulation, they will be sent home and made a do not utilize for six months. Travelers will float between all telemetry and medical-surgical units. Floating is required and may include floating to ICU and cardiac telemetry. The notification of campus and unit will be provided 1.5 hours prior to shift start. Floating to different units mid-shift can occur. Rarely, a traveler may float to another campus within a single shift. The distance between campuses is approximately nine miles. Depending on traffic, this may take about 15 minutes via interstate. Travelers must clock out when leaving one campus and clock in upon arrival at another campus. Common diagnoses/types of patients include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, day-two CABG patients, and general telemetry. Patients include those on Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, and Dobutamine to titrate down only. No pediatrics will be encountered; patients are 15 years old and older. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Charge nurses will not take patient assignments. There are nursing aides present to assist with patient care. Central telemetry will be utilized, and registered nurses must interpret EKGs. There is no ventilator management required. The hospitalist is present for rounds during the day and is on call at night. Real-time respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Floor-specific orientation is two shifts on the unit. Common diagnoses include neuro post-surgical, post-craniectomy, spine conditions, and CVAs post-TPA. IV teams are not available, but there are resources for difficult IV sticks. Staff members are expected to float to similar or lower acuity units. The job requires working two of three major holidays. The cancellation policy states that shifts can be canceled up to four times for a 13-week assignment. There are designated staff available for emergency situation tasks. Charting will be conducted using a computerized system.
