NOW HIRING: PARK GROUNDSMAN I TURF GRASS
The Park Groundsperson l performs weekly mowing and trimming as well as supervises the seasonal staff in these services. The Park Groundsperson I assists with the upkeep of sports fields, performs routine custodial tasks and light maintenance repairs, and is a key member of the district snow removal operations. The Park Grounds person I is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position. Position may include evening, weekend, and holiday work.

ABOUT US
The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age and high school graduate or equivalent. Prior experience in parks maintenance or related field preferred. Ability to have flexible hours during prime season is crucial. Candidate should have some knowledge of park grounds and facility practices; some knowledge of pertinent safety precautions; ability to operate light maintenance equipment; ability to make simple adjustments and to perform simple maintenance on equipment; and ability to perform required duties with initiative, good judgment, accuracy, persistence, integrity, dependability, tact and courtesy. Must possess a valid Class “C” Illinois Driver’s License or obtain within 6 months of hire. Must be certified in CPR/1st Aid/AED or willing to become certified within a specified time frame.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Acts as a crew leader and has responsibility for the condition of all park turf grass areas
Operates wide-area mower to cut district turf grass
Operates trim and small mowers to cut district turf grass
Weed-whips fence lines, light pole bases, signs, and other intricate areas
Supervises seasonal mowing staff on daily tasks and safe operations
Assists with turf maintenance including aerating, seeding, sodding, & establishing new turf
Assists with litter and trash removal at all district property
Assists with sports field layout and preparation
Removes snow from parking lots, sidewalks, and throughout Park District as needed
Safely operates mowers, tractors, trucks, equipment, and trailers
Utilizes proper Personal Protective Equipment for job tasks
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment: checking oil & fuel levels, greasing, cleaning, and inspections.
Submits daily reports of work performed.
Works Park District events including 4th of July and Halloween, and others as needed. If a major event occurs that limits park district operations or forces a park district shut down and restricts employee from performing their normal job duties they may be assigned to duties outside of their job description as warranted by the situation
Assist in fulfilling agency’s mission, vision, and strategic plan, including attending any related meetings or performing any related job duties
Performs other duties as assigned
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs landscaping tasks which may include: pruning, mulching, and planting
Performs custodial duties as required
Performs painting tasks as required
Cleans vehicles and equipment
Performs and assist with general maintenance and repairs
Observes and enforces the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety
program
PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Prolonged periods of sitting on and operating a mower
Standing, kneeling, bending, and sitting are regularly required to perform job functions
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
Must be able to climb up and down: ladders, vehicles, equipment
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Must be able to think critically and offer solutions as problems arise
Must be able to work closely with co-workers
Must be able to work well with the general public.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Exposure to rain, snow, ice, heat, cold, and other extreme weather conditions for long periods

Identify proper PPE required to safely perform job tasks
Must have good problem solving and communication skills
The ability to read, write, and organize materials
