Responsibilities:
- The main function of a quality engineer is to research and test the design, functionality and maintenance of products, equipment, systems and processes and develop quality standards
- A typical quality engineer has the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and evaluate product integrity and standards
- Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data
- Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities
- May write training material and conduct training sessions on quality control activities
- May specialize in areas of quality control engineering, such as design, incoming material, process control, product evaluation, product reliability, inventory control, metrology, automated testing, software, research and development, and administrative application
- Directs workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability
- Support the Collision Mitigation System / Detect Application work group by helping plan, execute, and document validation activities for embedded safety features used on Caterpillar machines
- Contribute to requirements review, test plan development, issue triage, data/log analysis, validation evidence, and quality documentation needed to support software and system release readiness
- Work closely tied to CMS / Detect safety technology projects involving sensors, embedded controls, machine integration, and verification of feature behavior against requirements
- Addition to support increased validation workload, test coverage, documentation needs, and cross-functional issue resolution for CMS / Detect software and system programs

- Review system/software requirements, develop or update test cases, execute bench or machine validation activities, analyze logs and test data, document results, and support issue triage through closure
- Frequent interaction with software, systems, validation, hardware, and machine application teams through design reviews, test reviews, daily/weekly coordination, and defect-resolution discussions
- Part of a global CMS / Detect engineering team supporting embedded software, system integration, validation, and product quality activities across Caterpillar machine programs
- Primarily office/lab-based, on-site environment with work involving engineering collaboration, data review, test documentation, and occasional support for bench or machine-level validation depending on project needs
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required (electrical, electronics, computer, mechanical)
- 5 7 years experience required
- Open to Masters + 4 years of experience

Required Skills:
- Software/system validation experience, including creating test plans, executing test cases, analyzing results, and documenting evidence against requirements
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for hardware/software/system integration issues
- Clear technical documentation and communication skills for test status, defects, risks, and validation results
- Documentation experience, including test procedures, test reports, issue notes, validation evidence, and release-support artifacts
- Experience with CAN/J1939, Ethernet/TCP-IP, embedded controllers, sensors such as radar/camera/GPS/IMU, HIL/bench testing, Azure DevOps or similar workflow tools, and basic scripting such as Python is preferred
