Website Platform - Design Engineer
ReminderMedia
About ReminderMedia
ReminderMedia is a leading marketing services provider that has helped over 100,000 small businesses grow their client base through a powerful suite of digital and direct-mail marketing tools. We serve real estate agents, insurance professionals, financial advisors, and other relationship-driven small businesses with branded lifestyle magazines, digital marketing platforms, and creative content that keeps our clients top-of-mind with the people who matter most to their business.
About the Platform
We've built an AI-native website platform for real estate agents. One codebase serving many premium, fully-branded client sites, with AI onboarding that builds a complete site from a form, an editor clients use by chatting (including from their own Claude or ChatGPT), AI-generated photography and hero video, and fair-housing compliance built into every word. It's live, clients are on it, and sales are ramping now.
About the Role
We are hiring a Design Engineer with exceptional taste and serious growth potential. Someone who will shape how this platform looks and feels today, and who wants to grow into owning more of the product over time. You don't need to be an engineer. You need great taste, real fluency with AI tools, and the hunger to become someone who ships end-to-end.
This role has a defined growth path toward Founding Design Engineer level ownership. We're hiring your trajectory as much as your current skills. We care how good you are and how fast you're getting better, not how long it took you to get here. There's no years-of-experience requirement; your work is the requirement.
This is a fully remote position, based anywhere in the eligible states listed below.
Essential Functions
Theme and Site Design
- Design the themes that define what "premium" means on our platform. Our architecture makes themes pure design work. A theme is a component that plugs into onboarding, the editor, and publishing automatically.
- Own the craft heart of the platform: typography, spacing, hierarchy, restraint, and the details that make a site feel premium.
- Design and iterate on the visual systems that scale across many client sites while preserving individuality.
UX Across the Product
- Improve the experiences clients touch every day: the admin, the AI editor, onboarding flows, and the public-facing sites.
- Design for a multi-tenant platform where every improvement compounds across the client base.
- Partner with the platform team to ship design changes end-to-end, using AI tooling as your primary leverage.
Client Support as Design Research
- Handle escalated client tickets. Our AI triage layer catches the routine ones, and you'll work the ones that require judgment.
- Turn every ticket into a design fix. Every ticket is a UX flaw, a content gap, or a docs gap. Your job is to make whole categories of them disappear.
- Feed the pattern of what you learn from support directly back into the product roadmap.
AI-Native Product Development
- Use AI tools (Claude Code, Replit, Cursor, Figma AI, and others) as the daily workflow to design and build. This is not a novelty. It is how the work gets done here.
- Document AI-assisted work in accordance with ReminderMedia's AI Use Policy.
- Ship faster and further than traditional design roles allow, by combining exceptional taste with real fluency in AI-augmented development.
Growing Ownership
- Progress along a defined growth path toward end-to-end ownership of features and, over time, major pieces of the product.
- Take on progressively broader technical scope as your ability to ship independently matures.
What You'll Work With
React 18, TypeScript, Tailwind, and shadcn/ui on the front end; a multi-tenant Node/Express platform with PostgreSQL behind it; and AI tooling (Claude Code, Replit, Cursor) as the daily workflow. You do not need to know this stack today. The AI tools close most of the gap; your taste and momentum close the rest.
What This Role Is Not
- Not a Figma-only role. You will build what you design, with heavy AI leverage and support as you grow.
- Not a pure engineering role. Your design taste is the main reason you will be hired.
- Not a big-team specialist seat. You will wear several hats and like it.
- Not a support-desk job. But support is genuinely part of it, by design, because it is how the product gets better.
The Environment
- AI-first by conviction, not policy: the product is AI-native and so is the way we build it. Using AI to be dramatically more effective is expected, not tolerated.
- A stable, modern platform: TypeScript end-to-end, one multi-tenant codebase, strong test coverage, versioned and reversible edits. You will build on rails, not in a swamp.
- Real customers, real revenue, real stakes: premium clients whose sites are their business. Your work goes live and matters immediately.
- Small-team speed with an established company behind it. ReminderMedia has served real estate agents for years, with existing sales, support, and client relationships. This platform is the new flagship product line.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Exceptional design taste demonstrated through a portfolio. Your work makes people feel something. You have strong opinions about typography, spacing, and restraint, and you can articulate why something is beautiful.
- Deep fluency in modern web fundamentals: HTML and CSS at an expert level, JavaScript at a comfortable working level.
- Genuine daily use of AI tools for design and development (Claude, Replit, Cursor, Figma AI, or equivalent). You should be able to describe your workflow specifically, with concrete examples of what these tools let you ship that you couldn't before.
- Portfolio of shipped design work required. Live sites strongly preferred over mockups. Submit links to work you have shipped, with a brief description of what you personally owned.
- A learning trajectory that surprises people. You may not ship production code end-to-end today, but you want to, and you pick things up at a pace that stands out.
- Willingness to handle escalated client support tickets as part of the role. Ego about support work is a dealbreaker in both directions.
- Ownership mindset. When something is broken, unclear, or ugly, you fix it or flag it. You do not wait to be asked.
- Clear professional written communication in English.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Permanent residency in one of the following states is required: AL, AZ, CO, DE, FL, GA, IN, KY, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NM, NV, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, or VA.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior shipped work with React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and shadcn/ui.
- Experience designing for multi-tenant or theme-based platforms.
- Experience shipping product end-to-end (design plus build), even if AI-augmented.
- Prior work in a startup or small-team environment where you wore multiple hats.
- Experience designing for regulated verticals (real estate, financial services) or for small business audiences.
- Prior experience with Node/Express, PostgreSQL, or similar backend fundamentals.
Compensation and Growth
- Comprehensive compensation package with a base salary of $95,000 to $125,000, calibrated to craft and trajectory. Range is flexible for exceptional candidates.
- Full benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and much more.
- Equipment needed to work remotely is provided by the company.
- A defined growth path: compensation and scope review at 12 months, with a clear track toward Founding Design Engineer level ownership (and the compensation that comes with it) as your end-to-end shipping matures.
- Fully remote (US).
How We Hire
1. Application. The three items in the "How to Apply" section below. We read every complete one.
2. Portfolio conversation. A call about your work. What you made, what you owned, why it looks the way it does.
3. Paid work sample. A few hours, on your schedule, designing (and building as far as you can, with any AI tools you like) one themed section against our real template contract. We pay for your time; you keep the learning. We care about the taste first and the build second.
4. Final conversation. With the founder of the platform. The growth path, the product, and whether we are right for each other.
How to Apply
Submit the following:
1. A link to your best design work. Shipped is a big plus. Live sites beat mockups, but exceptional unshipped work still counts. Tell us in a sentence or two what you owned.
2. Your AI workflow, briefly. What tools do you actually use day-to-day, and one concrete example of something you designed or built faster or better because of them. Specifics beat philosophy.
3. A resume or LinkedIn, and anything else that shows your taste (portfolio, personal site, side projects).
Applications without the first two requirements will not be reviewed. They are the whole interview's opening move.
How We Measure Success in This Role
- Quality and consistency of design output across themes and product surfaces.
- Rate at which you ship independently versus require support from the platform team.
- Reduction in categories of client support tickets as a result of your design and content fixes.
- Client feedback on the sites and product experiences you have shaped.
- Growth in scope and end-to-end ownership over the first 12 months.
- Contribution to platform velocity as an AI-augmented builder, not just a designer.
Equal Employment Opportunity
ReminderMedia is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, genetic information, marital or familial status, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
Consideration of Criminal Histories
We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including applicable fair chance and ban-the-box requirements. Any offer of employment may be contingent on the successful completion of a background check conducted in accordance with applicable law, and applicants will receive all disclosures and authorizations required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and applicable state law before any such check is conducted.
Reasonable Accommodation and Alternative Application Methods
ReminderMedia is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities throughout the application and interview process and in the performance of essential job functions. Applicants who require a reasonable accommodation, or who require an alternative method of application or screening, may contact our recruiting team directly at (url removed) to request assistance.
Candidate Communications
ReminderMedia may contact applicants by email, phone, or text message regarding their application and the hiring process. Consent to receive automated or recurring text messages is obtained separately through an affirmative opt-in during the application process, is not a condition of employment or of consideration for employment, and may be revoked at any time by replying STOP. Message and data rates may apply.
