Our Reston team is seeking a mid-level Rust Developer to build and optimize production software supporting simulation, optimization, and decision support in mission-focused environments. This role is for someone who can work in a large Rust codebase, collaborate closely with researchers and engineers to translate complex algorithms and technical concepts into performant, reliable software, and integrate those capabilities with backend services, databases, frontend applications, and supporting infrastructure. The strongest candidates will bring experience developing production-grade, performance-sensitive software in Rust, strong software engineering fundamentals, and the technical judgment to optimize computationally intensive code while helping move research-driven capabilities into maintainable operational systems. Our Reston team is seeking a mid-level Infrastructure Engineer to help build, deploy, and operate the systems that support mission-focused software in production. This role is for someone who can improve how software moves from development into operational environments, while ensuring those environments remain reliable, observable, and maintainable. A successful candidate will work across containerized deployments, release automation, production monitoring, incident response, and integrations with external systems. The strongest candidates will bring hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and Docker, solid software development fundamentals, and the ability to deliver reliable platform solutions in secure, operationally constrained environments. This role is for someone who can develop robust test harnesses, mocking infrastructure, and automated and manual testing strategies. A successful candidate will also help integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines and improve software quality and reliability across Java, Rust, and TypeScript-based applications. The strongest candidates will bring solid software development fundamentals, hands-on experience with software testing and test infrastructure, and the technical judgment to build scalable, maintainable testing practices across a growing production codebase. We are seeking talented programmers with strong computer science, math, and/or physics backgrounds for complex and challenging projects. As a Software Engineer you will be responsible for writing backend infrastructure and frontend web applications for simulation and optimization software that incorporates probabilistic models of physical systems. Project teams range from 2 to 20 people and include a mix of Research Scientists and Software Engineers. Each team member is involved in the entire problem-solving process, from initial concept through data visualization and analysis, algorithm design, exploratory prototyping, software implementation, demonstration, and deployment. Roles within a team are flexible, giving employees space to contribute to their areas of strength, and to develop new skills. The ideal candidate has experience writing well-designed, maintainable, and extensible code.
