Staff Accountant
Groove Global LLC
Job Description:
About the Role
The Groove is building out a formal finance and accounting function to match its growth — moving from a founder-run, FreshBooks-era setup to a clean, accrual-basis close on Workday. We're hiring a Staff Accountant to be the hands-on, day-to-day executor of that build-out: reconciliations, journal entries, AP/AR support, and the general ledger discipline that lets the rest of the finance team focus on policy and higher-level review rather than data entry. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help stand up a finance function from the inside, working directly with the CFO and an experienced controller consultant.
What You'll Do
- Perform monthly and quarterly bank reconciliations in Workday, including clearing out a backlog of unapplied deposits and cash.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts on an accrual basis each quarter, researching and correcting unnatural or stale balances.
- Support the transition to accrual-basis accounting: prepaid amortization, depreciation, accrual entries for payroll/PTO/bonus/commission, and other standard month-end adjustments, under the Controller Consultant's direction.
- Assist with accounts payable: invoice coding, cost-center/worktag completion, and 1099 vendor tracking alongside the AP/payroll lead.
- Assist with accounts receivable: cash application, unapplied payment research, and supporting a weekly reconciliation process for time-and-billing data.
- Support payroll-related reconciliations, including matching payroll journal entries to ADP settlement detail and reviewing benefits deductions for accuracy.
- Help build and maintain a documented monthly close checklist as the function matures.
- Take on increasing responsibility for recurring, process-driven accounting work as Workday automation (bank-rec, AP workflow, revenue-recognition) comes online, freeing up senior team members for review and exception-handling rather than data entry.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 3–5 years of general ledger / staff accounting experience: journal entries, account reconciliations, AP/AR, and month-end close support.
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP and double-entry accounting fundamentals.
- Comfort with Excel for reconciliation and analysis work (lookups, pivot tables).
- Workday Financials experience is a strong plus — this role will work inside Workday daily, including during an active configuration and clean-up project.
- High attention to detail and comfort working through unresolved or messy data to find the right answer, rather than needing a fully built-out process to follow.
- Self-starter who's comfortable in a lean, fast-moving environment — this is our first dedicated staff accounting hire, so some ambiguity comes with the territory.
Nice to Have
- Experience in a professional services or consulting business (time-and-billing, project-based revenue).
- Prior exposure to a system conversion or ERP implementation.
Interest in growing into a senior accountant or assistant controller role as the function matures.
EEO Policy:
The Groove is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ancestry, genetics, gender identity or expression, disability, protected veteran or marital status.
Ready to embark on an exhilarating journey of innovation and collaboration? Apply nowand be part of our exciting team at The Groove!
