Senior Manager, Software Engineering — Case Management Platform
Natera
Senior Manager, Software Engineering — Case Management Platform
POSITION TITLE: Senior Manager, Software Engineering — Case Management Platform (CMP)
POSITION LOCATION: San Carlos, CA, Austin, TX, or Remote, USA
POSITION SUMMARY
Natera is seeking a hands-on, technically deep Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead our Case Management Platform (CMP) Core team. CMP is the technical backbone that moves patient cases from order to result across Natera's oncology, women's health, and organ health product lines — software whose reliability translates directly into turnaround time, lab efficiency, and patient outcomes.
This is explicitly not a people-management-only role. You will integration into an existing platform application department and build a new high leverage squad with a distinct mission to bridge Natera's commerce and fulfillment domains. With a small initial footprint, you are expected to be in the code: setting architectural direction, writing and reviewing code, driving production support, and modeling the engineering standard. As the team grows, you will rebalance your time toward leadership, hiring, and strategy — but hands-on technical credibility is a permanent requirement of this role.
We are looking for an agent of change. CMP is pushing hard on AI-native ways of working, mission-based team structure, and InnerSource stewardship. You will not just adopt these shifts — you will drive them.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead technically
- Set and defend the architectural direction for your scope; make the hard trade-off calls and own the outcomes
- Write production code, review PRs, and participate in production incident response alongside the team
- Drive design reviews; raise the technical bar through example, not memo
- Own the full SDLC for your systems — conception, design, implementation, test, release, operation, and sunset
Manage and grow people
- Hire and develop top performers; recruit for attitude as aggressively as for aptitude
- Hold regular 1:1s, deliver direct feedback with radical candor, and address underperformance quickly and respectfully
- Guide career development; create real ownership opportunities and delegate decisions, not just tasks
- Build a diverse, high-trust team that reflects the users and patients we serve
Drive the AI-native transformation
- Treat AI as core to how the team builds, delivers, and operates — not an experiment on the side
- Champion the adoption of AI coding tools, agent orchestration, and AI-assisted operations across your team and influence peer teams to follow
- Measure and communicate the leverage AI is creating in your org; retire practices that no longer earn their keep
Partner across the business
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for product management, commerce stakeholders, lab operations, and adjacent engineering teams
- Build and maintain a working relationship with lab managers, lab supervisors, and commerce leaders — understand their world firsthand
- Translate business priorities into engineering plans and translate engineering realities into options business leaders can act on
Manage delivery
- Own estimates, scope, dependencies, risks, and delivery for your team's commitments
- Run lean, outcome-oriented ceremonies; prefer visible work and short feedback loops over heavy process
- Facilitate collaboration and remove blockers; escalate honestly and early
Effect change
- Lead the evolution of our ways of working
- Propose and drive improvements beyond the walls of your immediate team
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, with meaningful time building complex data or process-management applications
- 3+ years leading engineering teams, with a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers
- Demonstrated hands-on technical ability — recent experience writing production code, leading design reviews, and troubleshooting production issues as a manager, not only as an individual contributor
- Strong fluency in Java or another object-oriented language, modern cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred, including Lambda and other stateless/serverless patterns), relational databases, and distributed systems
- Demonstrated adoption of AI-assisted development, agent-based workflows, or similar modern engineering practices — and the ability to make others productive with them
- Experience partnering with product management, operations, and business stakeholders in a matrixed environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfort operating across time zones with distributed and offshore teammates
- Experience in biotech, healthcare, or another regulated industry is a strong plus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Hands-on coding, design, and architecture skills — currently practiced, not historical
- Deep understanding of software architecture and the full SDLC in a regulated environment
- Proven record of managing highly effective, mission-oriented teams and building leadership bench strength beneath you
- Comfort diagnosing production problems at all levels — from triage and workaround through root cause and prevention
- Expertise building scalable, resilient distributed systems on AWS, with a bias toward simple, stateless, event-driven designs
- Strong product sense; able to challenge requirements and reshape the problem when that's the better answer
- Extreme ownership: keeps promises, closes loops, and models the behavior expected of the team
- "Yes if" attitude — focused on finding paths forward and making constraints explicit
- Humble, direct, and resilient; gives and receives feedback well
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and building teams where people do their best work

Why this role matters
You are the person the RCM engineering team looks to for direction, delivery accountability, and career development. The team's ability to keep shipping reliable automation for our healthcare customers — and to grow together as engineers — flows through your leadership.
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of Software Engineers (SE I, SE II, and Senior level) building intelligent automation solutions for Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) in the healthcare industry. In this role, you will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management within an agile delivery framework, driving the team to deliver reliable, scalable, and compliant automation systems built on Python, Selenium, OpenCV, and Azure. You will own the team's hiring, development, and performance, while partnering closely with operations, clinical, and executive stakeholders to align engineering output with business priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Software Engineers across SE I, SE II, and Senior levels; conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career-development conversations.
- Hiring & Team Building: Own the full hiring lifecycle for engineering roles — sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding — to build a high-performing, collaborative team.
- Technical Leadership: Maintain sufficient technical depth to guide architectural decisions, participate in design reviews, and ensure the team delivers production-grade Python automation solutions.
- Delivery & Execution: Own team-level delivery commitments; remove blockers, manage priorities, and ensure projects ship on time with the quality and compliance standards the healthcare domain demands.
- Code Review: Perform regular code reviews on team pull requests, providing constructive feedback that reinforces code quality, consistency, and engineering growth; model the review standards expected across the team.
- Agile Delivery: Operate the team on agile principles as the default way of working — leading sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and iterative delivery practices that keep the team aligned, adaptive, and continuously improving.
- Engineering Standards: Establish and continuously improve standards for code quality, testing, documentation, security, and CI/CD practices across the team.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for operations, clinical, and executive stakeholders; translate business needs into engineering priorities and communicate progress clearly.
- Compliance Oversight: Ensure all team deliverables adhere to HIPAA, HITRUST, and healthcare data security requirements; champion a culture of compliance within the team.
- Process Improvement: Identify and drive improvements to team workflows, development processes, and automation practices to increase reliability, velocity, and engineering satisfaction.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate dependencies with other engineering teams and business units; represent the team in planning, roadmap, and prioritization discussions.
- Vendor & Tool Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and technologies (e.g., Azure services, AI/ML capabilities, RPA tooling) that improve the team's effectiveness and output quality.
Requirements
- Strong background in Python software development — Jorie is a Python shop; you will need enough hands-on Python depth to review and reason about your team's automation code every day.
- Clear understanding of automation, RCM workflows, and the healthcare technology landscape.
- Fluency with Git and collaborative development workflows (feature branches, code review, PR discipline).
- Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of software engineers at multiple seniority levels.
- Deep understanding of healthcare data privacy requirements, including HIPAA and HITRUST.
- Proven ability to balance people leadership with delivery accountability in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable navigating ambiguity.
- Exceptional communication skills; able to translate between engineering detail and business impact.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in an engineering management or team-lead role.
- Track record of growing engineers' skills and careers, including building clear development paths and fostering a culture of continuous learning and feedback.
- Experience owning end-to-end delivery of complex automation or software projects, including scope management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder reporting.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to engage credibly in technical discussions around Python automation, Selenium, OpenCV, AI/ML tooling, and Azure cloud services.
- Sufficient hands-on engineering background to earn the trust of senior engineers and make informed tradeoff decisions on architecture, tooling, and technical debt.
- Familiarity with EHR / billing systems, healthcare web portals, and revenue cycle management automation.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Key Vault, App Services, Azure DevOps).
- Familiarity with logging, alerting, and observability practices.

FMX
Facilities Management eXpress is looking for an Engineer Manager to join our team!
At FMX, our Engineering Managers have a direct impact on our product, our people, and our culture. As manager of a Core Team, you’ll coach and mentor a talented group of software engineers, give them clarity on priorities and expectations, and help them grow technically and professionally while delivering high-quality software for our customers. You’ll partner closely with product, design, QA, and other engineering leaders to align your team’s work with business goals and build a healthy, high-performing, inclusive engineering culture.
This is a player-coach role. We want a manager who still loves to build: someone who stays close to the code, picks up bugs and non-mission-critical work alongside the team, and leads by example. You’ll also help shape how FMX builds software in an AI-first world, setting the practices, tools, and standards that help our engineers ship faster without lowering the bar on quality.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and grow your team: Give every engineer clarity on their role, responsibilities, goals, and the team’s processes, and clearly communicate changes to practices, priorities, and expectations. Provide regular coaching, feedback, and career guidance, and advocate for each person’s professional and technical growth.
- Build a strong culture: Foster trust, accountability, and continuous improvement, where engineers feel valued, heard, and connected to FMX’s mission. Keep the team engaged with challenging, meaningful problems and help them see the customer impact of their work.
- Clear the path: Actively remove blockers so the team works efficiently with minimal friction.
- Stay technical: Keep a strong understanding of your team’s systems so you can guide architecture decisions and unblock engineers directly. Champion operational excellence, including observability, CI/CD health, and production readiness.
- Drive AI-first development: Evaluate, adopt, and set standards for AI-assisted coding, code review, and testing tools.
- Shape the bigger picture: Contribute to engineering leadership discussions, decisions, and process evolution; partner with product and design leads on priorities and long-term vision; and help hiring teams identify, recruit, and onboard top engineering talent.
Requirements
What we're looking for:
- 2-4 years of engineering management or technical leadership experience, and prior experience as a software engineer, ideally in SaaS.
- A builder’s mindset: you still enjoy writing code and will regularly contribute fixes, features, and triage work that isn’t mission-critical.
- Hands-on experience with AI-first development (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, agentic workflows) and a point of view on best practices you can teach others.
- This role requires working Eastern Time hours to join daily team meetings, so candidates should be based in or able to work on Eastern Time.
- A proven ability to coach and grow engineers at every career stage, with strong, empathetic, and clear communication.
- Experience improving engineering processes and development workflows, plus familiarity with agile practices and cross-functional collaboration.
- The ability to think strategically while attending to the details of day-to-day execution.
- A passion for building inclusive, psychologically safe teams that value continuous learning and an excellent developer experience.
- Enthusiasm for FMX’s mission and alignment with our core pillars: Teamwork, Excellence, and Integrity.
Nice to Have:
- Native mobile experience (Swift or Kotlin)
- Cloud infrastructure experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform
- Containerization with Docker
- CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance
- Observability (logging, metrics, traces, and alerting) or SIEM experience
Our Tech Stack:
- .NET / C#
- React and TypeScript
- React Native
- Azure
The Hiring Process:
- 1. Apply! Submit your resume and brief application questions directly through our Workable portal to get started.
- 2. PeopleOps Phone Screen (30 min) A introductory conversation to dive into your background, introduce you to FMX culture, and clarify core role expectations. This is also your chance to ask about compensation, benefits, and life at FMX.
- 3. Hiring Manager Conversation (60 min) An in-depth chat with our Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Come ready to discuss your experience, career goals, and ideal next steps, as well as to ask detailed questions about team dynamics and role expectations.
- 4. Final Interview (60 min) A panel and peer interview designed to introduce you to key team members and explore technical alignment and collaborative fit.
- 5. Offer & Onboarding Once an offer is extended, we’ll initiate a standard background check to complete your onboarding process.
Benefits
- Make a big impact: You’ll have significant influence over the direction and future of our engineering teams, flagship product and company. We are scaling rapidly and there is a lot of room for advancement.
- Enjoy a collaborative culture and a close-knit team: We're a team of hard-working, high-fiving, friendly folks. We take collaboration, transparency, continuous improvement, and work/life balance seriously.
- Get to hire and work with the best: We believe in building high-quality, well-designed products and that requires the best talent. You’ll have the opportunity to work with and grow a highly-talented team.
- Learn and grow in your role and outside it: At FMX, we’re committed to improving our professional and personal selves. We bring in industry-experts as our advisors, provide leadership training, invest in team-building activities, and have a training budget and incentive program. Our Engineering team also dedicates 10% of their time to learning or working on projects that interest them.
- Enjoy flexible working hours: Have a dentist appointment at 8:30 AM? Need to tack on an extra 15 minutes at lunch to squeeze in that workout? As long as you're getting your work done then our working hours are flexible.
- Work from home: At FMX we are remote first, but you’re welcome to use our office as you need. We have two all-company events a year to ensure that you can put a face to that name and establish high-trust relationships with your teammates and co-workers. When you’re in the office, you can take advantage of our free snacks, beverages, and office kegerator.
Company:
While FMX is formally founded and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, on the day-to-day, we like to think of ourselves as headquartered “in the cloud”. We develop a cloud-based, software-as-a-service facility maintenance and management product. FMX serves education, property management, manufacturing, and other markets and is one of the fastest-growing companies in its space. Check us out at:
Note: All other company requirements are documented in the FMX Employee Handbook.
FMX is an equal opportunity employer.

A manager owns a team’s outcomes from the first conversation to production: what ships, how well it works, and how the people who build it grow.
We build with AI as the default, and our managers lead it by doing it. You stay current on how the best teams engineer with AI, try new tools and practices in your own work first, and bring to your team the ones that earn their place.
As a Senior Software Engineering Manager you lead a product engineering team that works directly on the workflows our clinics run every day. You hire, coach and level engineers against a published bar, and you turn product intent into a plan the team believes in. You also take real work in the codebase: features, fixes and the hard reviews. Senior engineers follow you because they have seen your code.
Responsibilities
Leading the team
- Lead a team of software engineers across time zones: one-on-ones, feedback, growth plans and performance conversations, held to the same bar for everyone.
- Hire for the team and shape the hiring bar with the Head of Engineering.
- Make quality the whole team’s job: reviews that teach, tests that mean something, and production behaviour the team watches as closely as its tickets.
Delivery
- Own the team’s delivery from problem to production, including planning, estimation, risk and release readiness.
- Partner with product management to shape work before it starts, so stories arrive clear and the team builds the right thing the first time.
- Lead incident response for your team’s systems and make sure every incident leaves the platform safer than it found it.
Building with AI, and leading by example
- Ship code yourself every week: features, fixes and improvements to the team’s tooling, built with coding agents.
- Review the team’s pull requests and teach through them, holding AI-drafted work to the same bar as any other.
- Stay current on AI engineering practice, test new tools and workflows in your own work, and roll out what proves itself to your team and across the organization.
- Grow the engineers who will lead after you.
Requirements
- 8+ years building production software, including 3+ years managing software engineers directly, with responsibility for hiring and performance.
- You still write and ship production code as a manager, with C# and .NET experience.
- Angular, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes and AWS are a strong plus.
- Daily use of coding agents in your own engineering work, and experience rolling AI engineering practices out to a team.
- Teams that built or operated systems under HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 or comparable regulation.
- Experience leading distributed teams across time zones.
- Written and spoken communication that works across time zones and with colleagues whose first language is not English. (Most of our engineers are in Latin America.)
