What do we need
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to take primary responsibility for maintaining and supporting our existing Virscidian product portfolio.
Our current products will remain important to customers for the next several years. During that time, they will require ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, bug fixes, customer support, and selected new features. This role is intended to provide clear technical ownership of that existing product stack while allowing other engineering resources to remain focused on our future product development.
This is a hands-on software engineering role for someone who is comfortable working with the Microsoft-based technology stack and enjoys solving practical product and customer problems. The primary focus is keeping our existing products stable, supportable, and responsive to customer and business needs. When appropriate, the engineer may also contribute to new product development, including our SaaS platform, scientific algorithms, performance improvements, and other engineering initiatives.
The ideal candidate has strong C#/.NET experience, understands desktop and server-side applications, and is comfortable working across application code, databases, APIs, deployment, and customer environments.
In this role you will get to
- Take primary engineering ownership for the maintenance and support of existing Virscidian products.
- Investigate and resolve software defects, production issues, and customer-reported problems.
- Work with Support, Business Development, Product Management, and engineering teams to understand issues, priorities, and customer impact.
- Implement new features and product enhancements on a case-by-case basis as customer and business needs evolve.
- Maintain and enhance existing C#/.NET applications, including desktop UI (WPF, WinForms), services, Web APIs, and supporting components.
- Work with SQL Server databases, data access layers, stored procedures, and application data models.
- Support Azure hosted resources and existing DevOps, build, deployment, and release processes.
- Troubleshoot issues across software, database, configuration, deployment, and customer environments.
- Help improve the visibility and communication of product issues so priorities are clear to engineering and business stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineers working on future products when knowledge of the existing products, workflows, or domain is needed.
- Contribute to new product development when appropriate, including SaaS platform work, scientific algorithms, performance and scalability improvements, and related engineering efforts.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced software engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of mature products and keeping them reliable for customers. This role is well suited to someone who values practical engineering, understands that established products still require active development, and is comfortable working independently across a broad technical stack.
The person should be able to investigate issues with limited initial information, communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and drive problems through to resolution.
The key skills we are looking for
- C# / .NET: Strong hands-on experience developing and maintaining applications using C# and the .NET platform.
- Desktop Application Development: Experience maintaining Windows desktop applications and user interfaces.
- SQL Server: Strong experience with relational databases, SQL Server, data access, troubleshooting, and performance considerations.
- Web APIs: Experience developing and supporting REST APIs and application integrations.
- Azure: Experience working with applications and services deployed in Microsoft Azure.
- DevOps / Build and Release: Experience with source control, automated builds, deployment, release management, and troubleshooting deployed applications.
- Product Maintenance: Experience supporting mature production software, including bug fixes, maintenance releases, and incremental feature development.
- Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills and the ability to diagnose problems across application, database, infrastructure, and customer environments.
- Ownership: Comfortable taking responsibility for a product area, managing priorities, and following issues through to completion.
- Communication: Ability to work directly with Support, Business Development, Product Management, developers, and other stakeholders to clearly understand and communicate technical issues.
- Autonomy: Comfortable working independently and making practical engineering decisions within an established product architecture.
- Collaboration: Able to work constructively with multiple engineering teams and share knowledge across existing and future product development.
- New Product Development: Ability to contribute beyond maintenance when needed, including SaaS architecture and development, scientific and analytical algorithms, performance optimization, and scalability work.
You may also have
- Experience with scientific or laboratory software.
- Experience with chromatography, mass spectrometry, CDS, LIMS, ELN, or other laboratory informatics systems.
- Experience maintaining software used in regulated or enterprise customer environments.
- Experience with legacy or long-lived Microsoft technology stacks.
- Experience supporting customer-specific configurations and integrations.
- An electrical engineering, software engineering, computer science, or related technical background.
Ultimately, we are looking for someone who enjoys owning and improving established software products, solving real customer problems, and providing the engineering continuity needed to keep our current product portfolio stable and effective for the next several years, while also being able to contribute to new product development when it makes sense.
Research shows us the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting outstanding candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply — we’d love to hear from you.
By submitting your application, you agree that Dotmatics may collect your personal data for recruiting, global organization planning, and related purposes. Dotmatics Privacy Notice explains what personal information we may process, where we may process your personal information, our purposes for processing your personal information, and the rights you can exercise over Dotmatics use of your personal information.

Sr. Software Engineer - .NET
HeroDevs, Inc.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (.NET) to join our Never-Ending Support (NES) team. This role focuses on our “NES for .NET” product line, where you will produce critical security patches for CVEs affecting end-of-life versions of .NET and other NuGet packages, as well as build the tooling and automation that makes that work scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze CVEs and upstream security fixes in .NET Runtime, ASP.NET Core, SDK, and related packages, and apply them to end-of-life .NET versions
- Build, test, and reproduce end-of-life .NET versions on modern and legacy toolchains, including resurrecting build environments and pinning dependencies that no longer resolve
- Build and utilize AI-assisted automation for triage, patch analysis, backport drafting, and regression verification, to scale the product securing process.
- Build and maintain test harnesses that validate CVE patch correctness and backwards compatibility
- Provide support to customers' engineering teams on compatibility issues, and upgrade paths
Required Qualifications
- Deep expertise in C#, and the .NET ecosystem. Low-level experience with the .NET Runtime, .NET SDK and other .NET ecosystem projects
- Demonstrated ability to read and reason about unfamiliar low-level code: understanding a security patch well enough to reimplement it against a different code baseline
- Experience building and debugging complex software from source, including toolchain and build-system archaeology
- Experience building software for multiple platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux distributions including RHEL, etc.)
- Strong ownership of correctness and quality – rigorous testing, regression coverage, and an instinct for what a patch might break
- Practical experience using LLMs to automate real engineering work, with judgment about where automation helps and where it can't be trusted
- Comfortable in a small, high-autonomy team where you help shape the process, as much as follow it
- Ability to communicate with customers in early product iterations, or in tier-3 support capacities
Preferred Qualifications
- Contributions to .NET open source projects – dotnet/runtime, dotnet/aspnetcore, or widely used NuGet packages
- Strong grasp of security fundamentals – CVEs, CVSS, common vulnerability classes (deserialization, path traversal, cryptographic misuse, DoS via resource exhaustion), and how to assess exploitability
- Familiarity with container image hardening, SBOMs, artifact signing, and supply chain security
- Experience building and deploying services built on .NET in Microsoft Azure
- Experience as either a technical lead or team lead
- Experience running production services on Azure, AWS and Kubernetes
- Background in security research, vulnerability triage, or product security
At HeroDevs, we believe in the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion to drive innovation, creativity, and success. We are committed to creating a workplace that embraces and celebrates individual differences. We encourage people of all backgrounds and experiences to apply.
