Do you want to empower organizations to build smarter compensation strategies while ensuring fair pay for all employees?

Syndio is the leading pay governance and compensation intelligence platform. We help organizations make better pay decisions at every stage of the compensation lifecycle, from leveling and offers to promotions and merit. Our platform gives HR, compensation, and finance leaders the data and decision support they need to govern pay fairly, compliantly, and with confidence. We partner with many of the world’s most recognized and respected enterprises, helping them implement leading-edge compensation solutions with expert guidance and analyzing pay for over 10 million employees across the world.

Join us in our mission to help companies make smarter pay decisions they can trust!

About the Role:

We are seeking a Software Engineer to build, maintain, and manage our integration platforms, ensuring scalable, reliable, and secure data flows across systems. This role is crucial as integrations become central to our service delivery. You will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing workflows, managing connectors and APIs, and providing ongoing support for integration performance.

At its core, this role is about transforming how data flows at Syndio and building the future of all data ingestion across the company.

Why this job is exciting:

  • Build the front door to Syndio — Data Hub is where every customer starts and the foundation every analysis runs on, so you'll decide how they connect a system, map their fields, and see exactly what came through.
  • Keep it fast at scale — customer datasets run to hundreds of thousands of employees across dozens of sources, and holding refresh times as that grows is a standing engineering problem, not a one-time fix.
  • Integrate against HRIS, ATS, and payroll APIs, building the platform's native connections and handling the real-world mess of auth flows, pagination, rate limits, schema drift, and partial failures.
  • Make failures legible by turning opaque sync errors into clear, actionable feedback so customers and Customer Success can resolve issues without an engineer in the loop.
  • Improve the implementation platform, collaborating with Forward Deployed Engineering and Implementation to understand what customers need and grow the platform's capabilities to meet more of it out of the box.
  • Work across a real distributed system spanning a Go API, Temporal workflows, a Python transformation engine, and a customer-facing frontend, following problems wherever they lead instead of stopping at a service boundary.
  • Raise the standards by establishing the patterns, documentation, and error-handling conventions that let integrations scale past what any one person can hold in their head.

Basic Requirements:

  • 4+ years building and shipping production software, with solid backend fundamentals. Python and/or Go preferred.
  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining integrations against third-party APIs — REST/SOAP, webhooks, OAuth and API-key auth, pagination, rate limiting, and handling upstream schema changes.
  • Experience with data pipelines and orchestration: scheduling, retries, sequencing, and monitoring workflows across systems.
  • Solid SQL and the ability to reason about data models and transformations.
  • Familiarity with HRIS, ATS, CRM, or ERP systems and their data models.
  • Strong documentation habits and a bias toward making your work legible to others.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams — you'll work directly with Customer Success and Implementation.

Nice to have:

  • Frontend experience (TypeScript/React or equivalent) and interest in building the product surface customers use to connect their systems.
  • Experience with iPaaS tools (Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, Tray.io, Celigo) and a point of view on when to build versus buy an integration.
  • Workflow orchestration engines (Temporal, Airflow)
  • File-based ingestion at scale — SFTP, CSV, flat-file pipelines and the validation they demand.
  • Working with sensitive employee or compensation data and the security and privacy practices that requires.

About You:

  • You like building products people depend on, and you care about the experience of whoever's on the other end — not just whether the pipeline ran.
  • You've worked with sensitive data and treat security, privacy, and compliance as part of your job rather than someone else's.
  • You've seen customer onboarding up close and know the ways cross-system data flows go wrong in practice.
  • You're comfortable in unfamiliar territory — reading a third-party API's docs, tracing a bad record back through a pipeline, and working out what actually happened.
  • You want a say in where the platform goes over the long term, and you're eager to grow into that as you learn the domain.
  • You are a strong communicator, collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical teams across levels and functions.
  • You assume positive intent, are humble and eager, expect the best from yourself, value partnership over perfection, and provide grace and understanding in stressful situations
  • You value a remote work environment and know that it requires greater intentionality on your part to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • You are based in Calgary and legally authorized to work in Alberta without need for additional visa support now or in the future.

Why you'll love it here:

  • 💰 Competitive Compensation. For this role our salary is targeted at: $125,000 - $148,000 CAD per year in Canada / $140-160k USD in the United States. Final offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience and expertise
  • 🏆 Syndio Equity. So you can share in Syndio’s success
  • 🏝 20 days annually in Canada. Flexible PTO in the US. We encourage our team to recharge when they need to, plus paid sick & safe time, compassion leave, and voting leave
  • 🩺 Additional Private Medical coverage
  • 📍 Remote-First (within commuting distance of Calgary)

Role progression:

  • In the first 30 days: Focus on onboarding, mastering our core integration platforms and tools, and independently handling bug fixes and documentation updates. By the end of this period, you will have completed your first small-scale integration task.
  • In the first 60 days: Independently manage and optimize a portfolio of existing integrations, troubleshoot complex cross-system issues, and lead the build-out of new, standard integration workflows.
  • In the first 90 days: Design and implement advanced integration architectures, establish enterprise-level governance standards, and spearhead high-impact collaboration projects across engineering and customer success teams.

The Interview Overview:

Below you'll find an outline of the interview plan for our Software Engineer, Integrations position. Please note that this is what we expect the process to look like; we may ask you for supplemental information or require an additional step before making a final decision.

  1. 30min phone call with a member of our Talent Team

If you share these values and are interested in joining us, we'd love to talk with you even if you don't 100% meet the "about you" listed here. We don't expect anyone to have all the answers, as long as you're willing to learn and grow with us.

Software Engineer, SMS Adapter

Ottimate

United States
Full Time

About Ottimate

Ottimate is an AI-powered AP [Accounts Payable] automation platform that empowers finance teams to reduce costs, prevent overpayments, detect fraud, and enforce policy compliance across the entire invoice-to-payment lifecycle.

About the Role

Ottimate is expanding into the retail and grocery market. There, invoice and vendor data live inside store-level systems, such as POS, back-office, and inventory platforms like BRdata, rather than the ERPs we integrate with today.

The SMS Adapter makes that data usable: a secure connector that runs at the store or corporate office, pulls data directly from the store's system, and syncs it to Ottimate's AP platform. We're looking for a software engineer to own this adapter end-to-end, from the initial data connection and sync logic through to the security, reliability, and deployment experience that lets a non-technical store operator run it with confidence.

This is a high-ownership, high-autonomy role. You'll be one of the first engineers dedicated to this product line, working closely with the retail/grocery product owner and store-side IT contacts at pilot customers.

Rsponsibilities

  • Build and maintain the adapter that connects to in-store systems, starting with BRdata, and syncs invoice items, vendor, and PO data to Ottimate.
  • Design and harden a reliable sync process: delta and full syncs, retry and backoff behavior, conflict handling, and clear failure visibility when a store's network or data source is unreliable.
  • Own local data handling and credential storage so the adapter can run unattended and securely on a store's machine.
  • Build and improve the setup and monitoring experience that store staff and support use to configure connections, check sync health, and troubleshoot issues without engineering involvement.
  • Establish strong automated test coverage for the adapter and keep it reliable across all target deployment environments (Windows is the primary target).
  • Own packaging, updates, and installation for software running on store-owned machines, often behind restrictive IT policies.
  • Work directly with pilot retail/grocery customers to diagnose environment issues, such as network, permissions, and data access, and turn them into product and reliability improvements.
  • Define and evolve the adapter's data model and mapping layer as we onboard additional store systems beyond BRdata.

Requirements

  • +5 YoE in strong software engineering experience, with a track record of owning a product end-to-end, from the data layer through the user-facing experience.
  • Experience building and shipping software that runs on end-user machines, including the packaging and distribution concerns that come with that.
  • Solid database experience, including comfort reverse-engineering schemas in third-party systems you don't control.
  • A track record of writing dependable integration and sync code: idempotency, retries, partial-failure handling, observability.
  • Practical testing instincts. You know when to reach for integration and end-to-end tests, not just unit tests, to catch real-world failure modes like a flaky store network or a locked-down machine.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity. This is a new, fast-moving product area without years of established internal convention to lean on.
  • Bonus: Prior experience with retail/grocery back-office systems, POS integrations, or field-deployed software supporting non-technical end users.

Why This Role

You'll be the engineering owner of a product that's foundational to Ottimate's entry into a new market. The work you ship directly determines whether retail and grocery customers can get their invoice data into Ottimate at all. You'll have significant latitude to shape the adapter's design, testing strategy, and roadmap as the product line grows.

Benefits

Benefits

We care deeply about making Ottimate an incredible place to work and invest a significant amount of time and energy into creating and maintaining a company culture that provides our team with a generous level of support whilst inspiring them to do their best work.

The specific benefits/perks we offer are continually evolving, but currently include:

  • Compensation: $160,000-180,000 USD /year.

  • Employer sponsored 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid Time Off (and the encouragement to use it).
  • Promote from within philosophy.

Beyond the tangible benefits though:

  • You will be part of a growing team, at a pinnacle moment of scale for the business, and experience the excitement of working in a startup where each action makes a huge difference.
  • You will have the agency to solve difficult problems creatively, the freedom to explore work that inspires you, and infrastructure to ensure you're constantly challenged and developing.
  • You will work with sharp, passionate teammates solving some of the most unique challenges and positioning our product as a premier finance automation solution.
  • Our commitment to empowering a diverse and inclusive workforce, celebrating differences, and creating a safe space for our employees to bring their whole selves to work is second to note.
  • We are transforming entire industries using innovative technology including Artificial Intelligence, Payment Tech, and Neural Networks.
  • Our leaders lead with a people-first approach; inspiring excellence, nurturing ideas, and finding creative ways to eliminate obstacles for cultivating growth.
  • We truly love what we do and who we do it with - and we think you will too!
