Samsara

Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

Recovering entrepreneur? Frustrated with bureaucracy? Want to write the roadmap, not inherit one?

We're hiring across multiple levels and verticals. The nice thing about growing 30%+ at ~$2B ARR is that we need great engineers everywhere, and we have the room to shape the role around the right person. You build like a founder. We give you the platform to do it at scale.

About the role:

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) sits at the center of hardware, software, AI, and the physical world. The platform processes 25+ trillion data points annually from IoT sensors, cameras, and connected devices across thousands of organizations, and that dataset is compounding: it grew from 4 trillion to 25+ trillion in four years. We're still early in turning that data into the products that will define how physical operations run, and we're hiring the engineers who will build what comes next.

We're approaching ~$2B ARR growing 30%+ year over year, with 96% of our largest customers on two or more products. The fastest-growing divisions at Samsara are tackling the hardest, most ambiguous problems at the company: building new products from scratch, applying AI and ML to massive real-world datasets, and shipping capabilities that change how organizations maintain equipment, manage fleets, and run day-to-day operations. Most of this work is zero-to-one, at billion-dollar scale.

We're looking for software engineers who want to define what ships next. Leveling is broad and flexible: we're hiring from Senior through Staff+, across platform and product, and we're open to shaping scope around the right person's strengths and interests. That window won't stay open long.

This role is remote and open to candidates residing in the US. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will have real-world stakes: helping keep the lights on, getting food into grocery stores, keeping workers safe. What ships here isn't metrics on a dashboard. It shows up on the loading dock, the job site, and the dispatch floor.
  • You want to build, not maintain. Samsara is in full growth mode. We're building new systems from scratch, not babysitting old ones. You'd own entire problem spaces end to end, with the autonomy to set direction from day one.
  • You want to work where AI meets the physical world. Samsara has spent a decade building the largest proprietary dataset for physical operations. More connected assets generate more data, more data trains better models, better models drive more value, and more value wins more assets. The market and the opportunity here are what set us apart, not just the models.
  • You believe customers are more than a number. Samsara engineers have a rare closeness to end users. You'll participate in customer interviews, collaborate with product managers and customer success, and use that context to build products that solve real problems operators face every day.
  • You have the curiosity and drive to figure it out. We're looking for people who take pride in their work and get things done at all costs. The engineers who thrive here don't wait to be told what to build. They define it, ship it, and own the outcome. The rate-limiting step on our teams isn't tooling or process. It's ambition.

In this role, you will:

  • Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and run with them. We want to point you in a direction and show up to the demo meeting impressed, not spend our weeks managing the details.
  • Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to the customer-facing UI.
  • Design and ship full-stack features end to end. You'll work across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products that solve real operational problems.
  • Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous, real-world problems into clear technical plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Build and scale the systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and the workflows that put intelligence into the hands of operators.
  • Raise the bar for the engineers around you through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and by setting a standard for quality, velocity, and craft.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
  • Strong full-stack fundamentals. You're comfortable working across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile) to ship complete products.
  • Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout, including managing ambiguity, driving alignment, and delivering measurable impact.
  • Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products. You don't need to train models, but you know how to take AI capabilities and turn them into products customers love.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A track record of building: zero-to-one products, systems you left in a meaningfully better place, or hard problems you refused to let stay unsolved.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience shipping AI-powered features in production, whether that's LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI.
  • Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.) to multiply your output and accelerate delivery.
  • Background working with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections) or a strong interest in learning the domain.
  • A proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture, standards, and best practices beyond a single team.
  • Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity and drive outside the scope of your day job.

At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing, and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you'll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that's shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you'll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

About the role:

The Safety Engineering - Triage & Insights Team owns and builds the systems and customer-facing products across web, mobile, and API surfaces that help fleets identify unsafe driving behaviors and recognize positive driving habits. • You are a life-long learner: We have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers that push us to learn on the go.
  • You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user, and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes.
  • You are a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we're all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win together.

In this role, you will:

  • Own customer-facing features and platform capabilities end to end, from design and implementation through rollout and follow-through in production, including taking AI prototypes to production at scale.
  • Architect, build, test, and deliver full-stack products across reliable services, APIs, and web and mobile experiences, using technologies such as Golang, GraphQL, TypeScript, React, React Native, and MySQL. Previous experience with these technologies is not required.
  • Build AI-native product experiences: integrate LLMs into safety workflows, develop agent tooling and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and design the interactions between AI agents and the product UI.
  • Design and run evaluations and build human-in-the-loop feedback loops that continuously improve the accuracy, precision, and reliability of the insights we deliver.
  • Use AI coding tools and agents in your own workflow to plan, build, and ship faster, and help shape how our team develops software in an AI-assisted world.
  • Make thoughtful technical tradeoffs across speed, maintainability, scalability, cost, and customer impact.
  • Own the operational health of the production systems you build, improving reliability and scalability as our customer base grows.
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Design, ML, and platform teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building, shipping, and operating reliable customer-facing production systems.
  • Strong programming fundamentals in a language such as Golang, Java, or Python, with experience writing clean, maintainable code and reviewing peers' code for correctness and clarity.
  • Experience developing features or end-to-end solutions across backend services, APIs, and modern web applications.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in AI-native development, including integrating LLMs into products, building agentic workflows, or running evaluations to improve the quality of AI-generated output.
  • Experience using data, metrics, logs, tests, or tracing to investigate issues, validate releases, and improve reliability.
  • Ability to independently own moderately complex projects, with the ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver on milestones.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional partners.
  • A growth mindset, strong product intuition, and excitement for learning new technologies and building impactful customer experiences.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience building and scaling customer-facing AI or LLM-powered products in production, including agent tooling, RAG, prompt engineering, or conversational and voice experiences.
  • Experience with LLM evaluation and observability tools such as Langfuse or Eino, and optimizing LLM-powered systems for cost and token efficiency.
  • A track record of using AI coding agents to plan and deliver features, not just autocomplete.
  • Experience working across the stack with modern technologies such as Go, GraphQL, TypeScript, React, React Native, and AWS (or Azure or Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with observability, rollout practices, and monitoring approaches that improve product reliability and operational excellence.
  • Experience operating in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments with distributed teams.

About the Role

As a Senior Associate, Operational Intelligence, you will build and maintain applications, integrations, and automation that improve how our teams operate. This is a hands-on individual contributor role within Technical Operations, with software development as a core responsibility. We are looking for someone who brings strong systems experience: understanding how frontend and backend services fit together, how APIs connect them, and how software is built, deployed, and operated in production. You will own defined features and projects from understanding the operational problem through development, testing, rollout, and ongoing support. This role is suited to someone who enjoys writing code, investigating system behavior, and working directly with users to deliver solutions that remain useful and reliable after launch.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Design and build full-stack features, connecting frontend interfaces to backend services and data stores, with a clear understanding of how requests, authentication, and data move through the system.
  • Instrument services with logging, metrics, and alerting so failures are detected and diagnosed quickly.
  • Partner with DoorDash Engineering and platform teams to align Operational Intelligence systems with company infrastructure standards.
  • Work directly with operational users to identify recurring challenges, translate feedback into technical requirements, and deliver improvements from concept through rollout.
  • Develop integrations and data workflows using APIs, databases, and automated jobs to connect systems, improve information quality, and reduce manual handoffs.
  • Contribute to AI-powered troubleshooting and decision-support capabilities, evaluating their accuracy, usefulness, reliability, latency, and operating cost.
  • Use version control, code review, automated testing, and staging environments to validate changes before deploying them into operational workflows.
  • Investigate application and integration failures, identify root causes, implement fixes or mitigations, and communicate findings to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Improve operational reporting by validating data relationships, metric definitions, and outputs used to inform decisions.
  • Create technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and user resources so others can confidently use and maintain the solutions you build.
  • Measure the impact of your work through adoption, time saved, reduced manual effort, and improvements in workflow quality.
  • Play a lead role in transitioning the Operational Intelligence team’s systems to a production-grade architecture, from design decisions through migration.
  • Mentor Operational Intelligence Associates to assist in the growth and development of the Operational Intelligence team (code quality, testing best practices, and documentation standards, etc.)

We’re excited about you because…

  • You’re excited to apply your development skills within an Operations organization and work closely with the people who depend on the systems you build.
  • You have 3–5 years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining software that runs in production environments.
  • You understand how frontend and backend systems work together, including HTTP, client-server communication, authentication, and data flow across services.
  • You have experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
  • You have experience deploying and operating containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • You have worked with CI/CD pipelines (such as Buildkite) and collaborate through GitHub using pull requests, code review, and branching workflows.
  • You can write, debug, and maintain Python and JavaScript code, and can use SQL to investigate, transform, and validate data.
  • You use LLMs and AI-assisted development tools effectively, understand their strengths and limitations, and can explain, test, and maintain the code they produce.
  • You have experience with APIs, databases, and system integrations, including diagnosing failures across connected systems.
  • You’re comfortable using the command line, and collaborating through Git, GitHub, and issue-tracking tools.
  • You approach problems with curiosity and a root-cause-first mindset, distinguishing immediate workarounds from durable improvements.
  • You communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical audiences, write useful documentation, and explain progress, tradeoffs, and results.
  • You take ownership of defined projects, follow through on commitments, surface blockers early, and proactively identify opportunities to improve how the team works.

We expect this position to be filled by 12-19-2026
