Full Time
Posted 17 days ago
Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company with the mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation and synthetic reality technologies. With offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, Shield AI’s technology actively supports operations worldwide. For more information, visit www.shield.ai. Follow Shield AI on LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and YouTube.

Job Description:

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Enterprise Software Engineering team, you will design and build the applications, services, and integrations that keep Shield AI's business running – connecting the systems our engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and finance teams depend on every day. You will work primarily in C#/.NET with React on the frontend, building distributed, message-driven systems in the cloud and bringing AI capabilities into the tools our people use.

This is a hands-on, senior engineering role, where you will drive solutions from requirements, system design through deployment and support – sometimes leading a project, and at other times working closely with your teammates on a shared codebase. We move fast, so we are looking for someone who learns quickly, hits the ground running, and is comfortable making sound decisions with incomplete information.

What you'll do:

  • Design, build, and maintain enterprise applications, APIs, and services using C#/.NET and React, with Python where it is the right tool for the job.
  • Architect and implement distributed, event-driven systems using message brokers (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, Azure Service Bus, MQTT) and service frameworks such as NServiceBus or MassTransit.
  • Build reliable integrations between enterprise systems (e.g., PLM, ERP, identity, and engineering platforms), handling long-running workflows, retries, and failure recovery.
  • Apply proven system design patterns – such as Saga/process managers, outbox, CQRS, and idempotent consumers – to deliver scalable, resilient, maintainable solutions.
  • Design and integrate AI capabilities into applications, such as LLM-powered features, agents, and intelligent automation.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining high standards for code quality, security, and review.
  • Deploy and operate services in Azure and/or AWS for our team and other teams across the business, applying sound practices for security, networking, identity, reliability, and cost.
  • Use existing CI/CD and developer platforms (GitLab, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Artifactory, SonarQube) to build, test, and ship software; contribute pipeline changes as your projects require.
  • Instrument services for observability and troubleshoot asynchronous and distributed processes in production.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow Staff engineers – contributing to design reviews, code reviews, and the team's engineering standards – and lead projects when the work calls for it.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to understand problems, shape requirements, and deliver solutions with measurable impact.

Required qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep expertise in C# and .NET (.NET 6+ / ASP.NET Core, an open-source web development framework | .NET Core), including building RESTful APIs, background services, and Entity Framework or similar data access.
  • Professional experience building frontends with React (TypeScript preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with messaging and event-driven architecture using RabbitMQ, Kafka, MQTT, Azure Service Bus, or similar technologies, including an understanding of delivery guarantees, ordering, retries, and dead-letter handling.
  • Strong knowledge/experience in architecting and using Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) tools
  • Strong understanding of system design and architectural patterns, including distributed systems, microservices vs. modular monoliths, eventual consistency, and resiliency patterns.
  • Cloud experience is a must – preferably Azure or AWS. Solid grasp of core cloud concepts at an associate-certification level (e.g., AZ-204, AZ-104, AWS Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Developer – Associate), including security, networking, identity and access management (IAM/RBAC), compute, storage, and managed services.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD and deployment practices – comfortable building, deploying, and troubleshooting applications through pipelines, though platform administration is not a primary responsibility.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL), including data modeling and query performance.
  • Strong experience with AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) and practical judgment about how to use them effectively and safely.
  • Strong testing discipline, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment – learns new domains and technologies quickly and delivers value early.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ownership, continuous improvement, and being a reliable, respectful team member.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience implementing the Saga pattern (orchestration and/or choreography) for long-running business processes.
  • Experience with NServiceBus and the Particular Service Platform (ServicePulse, ServiceInsight, ServiceControl), or comparable tools for monitoring and troubleshooting asynchronous, message-based systems.
  • Proficiency in Python for services, scripting, data processing, or AI/ML workloads.
  • Active Azure or AWS certification (associate level or higher).
  • Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Azure Container Apps, AKS/EKS) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep).
  • Experience with observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Application Insights, Grafana, Datadog, or similar).
  • Experience integrating with enterprise identity platforms (Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect, SSO, RBAC).
  • Experience integrating enterprise business systems such as PLM (e.g., Teamcenter, Arena), ERP (e.g., Costpoint), or similar.
  • Experience developing software in a DoD, defense, or government contractor environment, including Azure Government or AWS GovCloud.
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices and frameworks such as NIST 800-218 (SSDF).
  • Experience working as a peer on a small senior team, sharing a codebase and alternating between leading and contributing to projects.

  • We’re deploying these tools to super-charge campaigns, causes, and companies that make the world a better place. We currently work with many of the biggest Democratic pollsters, marketing agencies, advocacy groups, and labor unions in the country.

  • We’re a team of experienced campaigners, data scientists, and engineers who are obsessed with harnessing the power of evidence to make social good advocates more effective.

  • We’re ambitious, efficient, low-ego, and we like to make each other laugh.

Company Overview

Come and Join The New Rich!

The economic inequality crisis is one of the most defining challenges of our time. It’s also the greatest opportunity for innovation, and a challenge we’re proud to take on. At Newrich, we’re harnessing cutting-edge technology to better connect coaches with their communities and help them further spread their educational knowledge to their students and followers.

We believe that the key to making the world a better and more equal place starts with the empowering the individual. And from there- the individual can inspire and empower the people around them one by one.

We all know the old way of living and the old institutions that we all used to depend on are slowly crumbling - and a new way of life is taking it's place - at a quicker pace than ever before.

The world is changing at a very rapid pace. When all is said and done - the world will look a lot different than it looks today.

And we believe that education, inspiration, and motivation are the only way to create economic opportunity, alleviate poverty and end economic suffering for everyone.

One of the leading causes of economic inequality and suffering? It's not "being born into wealth" or " being in a special club". It's a lack of knowledge and skills to control your own financial destiny.

That’s where we come in. At Newrich, we are building the next generation creator platform and software tools to not only enable business, health, and wellness coaches to more efficiently and cost effectively run their creator business - but also to grow their audiences with improved visibility and algorithmic ranking on our social learning platform.

We empower digital entrepreneurs to turn their dreams into reality. Our mission is simple yet bold: to help people create a balanced, fulfilling lifestyle – while building wealth and independence along the way.

Our team spans the Americas and Europe, and we work with utility partners across the Americas and beyond. We’re outdoor enthusiasts, musicians, artists, athletes, parents, and adventurers—4 nationalities strong and growing. What unites us is a passion for solving complex problems, a commitment to action on economic inequality, and the belief that technology should be a force for good.

We’re a fast-growing team driven by one vision: a world where anyone can work remotely, chase their passion, and live life on their own terms.

Our platform combines SaaS tools, e-learning programs, and a supportive social network – a one-stop ecosystem designed for creators, entrepreneurs, and dreamers who want more than just a career.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer who can contribute across the product — building new features, improving existing systems, and helping the team work more efficiently. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and takes ownership of getting things done.

This role is not just about shaping our product - it's also about shaping our culture as well.

You will work across our stack (PHP 8.2 / Laravel 10), Node.JS, Golang, and React frontend (React 18 + TypeScript + Vite), and AWS infrastructure, contributing directly to production code while helping improve workflows, documentation, and processes. We hire for attitude and ownership over perfect technical mastery.

We believe fulfilling work and a healthy work-life balance is key to living a NewRich Lifestyle.

If you’re motivated, ambitious, and ready to grow with us, we want to hear from you!

Requirements

    • What You’ll Do
      • Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant systems across product and infrastructure

      • Improve performance, reliability, and system observability
      • Work closely with founders to translate product vision into technical systems
      • Set engineering standards, best practices, and code quality bar
      • Mentor engineers and help level up the team
      • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks across the stack

    • Experience
      • 8+ years of software engineering experience

        • Social platforms
        • Payments / fintech systems
        • SaaS infrastructure

        • API design and service boundaries
        • Databases (MySQL, Postgres, event-driven systems)

    • Leadership & Ownership
      • Ability to operate with high autonomy
      • Strong product intuition—can make tradeoffs between speed and scalability
      • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction
      • Comfortable working in early-stage, ambiguous environments
  • Tech Stack (Current & Evolving)
  • • Backend: Laravel (PHP), moving toward TypeScript / Go services
  • • Database: MySQL (with future evolution toward more scalable architectures)
  • • Infrastructure: AWS
  • • Realtime / Messaging: In-house systems (moving away from third-party dependencies)
  • • WebRTC, FFMPEG, HLS, SRT, RTMP, DRM.
  • • Node.js/Express, GitHub Actions.
  • • NoSQL (PostgreSQL, Redis).
  • • Experience in a multi-service/microservices-style architecture

    Nice to have:
  • You can demonstrate experience scaling large distributed architectures.

  • You have worked with social media, fintech, or messaging applications before.

Personal qualities:

    • Self-driven, motivated, reliable in a fast-paced environment.
    • Passionate about something - including a hobby outside of work (unless coding is also your hobby - we LOVE that)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain server-side applications (PHP 8, Laravel 10, Node.JS, Golang, MySQL).
  • Build and optimize APIs, ensure performance, scalability, and security.
  • Implement front-end features with React.js (18.2).
  • Work with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor juniors.
  • Manage integrations between systems and cloud services (AWS).
  • Maintain documentation, database schemas, and ensure security best practices.

What Makes This Role Different

  • What You Get
    • To be part of truly mission-driven work that aims to reduce economic inequality and empower individuals to live their best lives and build for the world around them.
    • Flexible working environment with a lot of autonomy. We build our work days around our lives, not the other way around.
    • Other benefits like a remote working budget, an educational budget and time to develop new skills.
    • To be surrounded by an excellent, vibrant, smart team who have each other's back and believe in a culture of openness, tolerance and respect.
    • You will help define the technical foundation of an entire ecosystem, not just a feature
    • Direct access to founders and influence on product + business decisions
    • Opportunity to build both:
      • Consumer-grade social product
      • Fintech-grade infrastructure
    • High ownership, low bureaucracy

Compensation

  • Competitive Salary (combination of base + equity + annual bonus) (based on location, experience, and company performance)
  • Meaningful equity package (early-stage upside)
  • Flexible work environment
