Frontline Wildfire Defense
Please note that we do not accept unsolicited candidate introductions, referrals, or resumes from external recruiters or staffing agencies.
Location: Remote (U.S. based; must be available to work PST/MST hours)
Background Check Requirement
As part of our hiring process, Frontline Wildfire Defense conducts comprehensive background checks for all new hires. These checks typically cover the past 7–10 years and may include employment and education verification. For roles that require work in the field, driving record verification is also required. Employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of these background checks.
About Frontline Wildfire Defense
Founded in 2017 by landscape ecologist and fire mitigation expert Harry Statter, Frontline developed the first fully integrated wildfire defense system to stop the leading cause of home loss in wildfires: ember-driven ignition. The system combines exterior sprinklers, full-coverage design, and connected software for remote monitoring and response, allowing homes to protect themselves long after families evacuate or infrastructure fails.
Proven effective during the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, 96% of homes with Frontline systems survived. That success has earned top industry recognition, including Frontline being recognized as one of TIME’s Best Inventions 2025 in the Green Tech category and receiving the PCBC Gold Nugget Award for “Most Innovative Housing Concept” and the Best of IBS Award for “Best Home Technology.”
As wildfires grow hotter and more frequent, our vision is to give people the tools and strategies to live safely with fire. We’re building a mission-driven team creating real-world solutions in wildfire safety and climate tech.
About This Opportunity
As a Senior Accountant at Frontline, you will be the person who keeps the general ledger in order - not as a task-completer, but as someone who cares about the integrity of what the numbers say. Frontline runs three revenue models simultaneously: milestone-based construction installations, bill-and-hold hardware product sales, and recurring software subscriptions. Underneath that, we have multi-entity operations, complex balance sheet activity, and a business that's scaling fast. The work is detailed, intellectually demanding, and consequential.
Reporting to the Controller, you will own bank and credit card reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, and the day-to-day accuracy of our general ledger. This is a role for someone who is not just comfortable with that level of precision - but who finds genuine satisfaction in it. If you like to solve puzzles, enjoy the feeling of every account tying out cleanly, and take pride in a ledger that's airtight, this is your seat.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Reconciliations
- Own bank and credit card reconciliations across all company accounts, ensuring every transaction is accurately recorded, categorized, and resolved in a timely manner.
- Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations - accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals, prepaids, intercompany, and other balance sheet accounts - with full supporting documentation.
- Maintain the general ledger with a high degree of accuracy, posting journal entries and ensuring the ledger reflects the true financial position of the company at all times.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly; track open items and follow through to resolution rather than leaving discrepancies unaddressed.
Month-End Close
- Execute assigned close tasks within the month-end close schedule, including journal entries, account tie-outs, and flux analysis on key balance sheet and P&L accounts.
- Prepare clear, organized work papers and reconciliation packages that can withstand audit scrutiny.
- Partner with the Controller to identify opportunities to tighten the close timeline without sacrificing accuracy.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
- Support AP and AR functions as needed, including vendor coding, payment processing, customer invoicing, and collections activity.
- Ensure transactions are coded to the correct entity, department, and account, particularly as the company expands across multiple states and operating entities.
Compliance & Audit Readiness
- Maintain documentation and internal controls that support audit readiness at all times.
- Support external auditors and tax advisors by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and requested documentation.
- Assist with multi-state sales and use tax compliance and payroll tax filings in coordination with the Controller.
Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies in reconciliation and close workflows and propose improvements that increase accuracy and reduce manual effort.
- Support the evaluation and adoption of accounting tools and automation that streamline transactional accounting functions.
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 4+ years of accounting experience, with a strong foundation in general ledger accounting
- Extensive, hands-on experience with bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations - this is the core of the role
- Deep familiarity with the general ledger: how it works, how entries flow, and how to identify and resolve errors
- Detail-oriented and precise - someone who notices discrepancies, digs into them, and doesn't move on until accounts are clean
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel/Google Sheets
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice-to-Have
- CPA license or active CPA candidacy
- Experience in a startup, high-growth, or multi-entity environment
- Familiarity with construction accounting, including job costing and WIP schedules
- Experience with accounting tools such as QuickBooks Payroll, Avalara, LiveFlow, or Sage Intacct
- Exposure to ERP systems such as NetSuite, Acumatica, or Intacct
- Experience supporting an external audit or preparing audit schedules
- Background in climate tech, construction, hardware, or SaaS business models
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary: $95,000 - $115,000 DOE
- Company-provided cell phone and laptop
- Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Flexible time off + 14 paid holidays (yes, your birthday is one of them!)
- Work-from-home stipend to support your remote setup
- Remote-first work environment, fostering work-life balance and autonomy
- Company-provided equipment
- Join a high-performing, mission-driven team doing work that truly matters
- And much more!
Join Our Mission!
If you're excited about building technology that protects homes and families from wildfire disasters, we want to hear from you! Apply today and become part of a fast-growing team with purpose and innovation at its core.
Diversity and inclusion are essential values at Frontline. We know we'll do our best and most impactful work when we feel represented, and we belong.
