Sales Engineer
About Mimecast
The work people build is worth protecting, and it's harder to protect than it used to be. AI agents now move at machine speed with human-level access, and a small slip-up can become a very public one. We disrupt cybercriminal activity before that happens. We think fast, go big, and always demand more of ourselves. We work hard, deliver, and repeat. We grow with real determination and put success well within reach. We push each other to be better and expect to be pushed back, in a community built on respect, where everyone is counted. Work Protected.
Overview
Sales Engineering is looking for a Sales Engineer to own the technical path to close across our SMB and Midmarket customer accounts. Partnering with Account Executives and Account Managers, you will lead discovery, deliver compelling demonstrations, manage proof-of-value engagements, and drive the technical win. Reporting to the US Sr. Sales Engineering Manager, this is a customer-facing role from day one—not one built around lab environments in isolation—with the support of an experienced Sales Engineering leader invested in your development. You will combine technical depth, communication skills, and commercial instincts to understand customer challenges, align our solutions to meaningful outcomes, and help move opportunities across the line.
What You'll Do
Own the technical conversation throughout the sales cycle, from initial discovery through proof of value and technical close
Deliver clear, compelling presentations and demonstrations to IT leaders, security teams, and business stakeholders
Partner closely with Account Executives and Account Managers to shape deal strategy, qualify opportunities, position value, and align solutions to customer outcomes
Lead technical discovery that goes beyond a feature checklist to understand each customer's environment, pain points, priorities, and definition of success
Manage proof-of-value engagements against clear success criteria and maintain timely, accurate opportunity and POV notes in Salesforce
Support RFP, RFI, and tender responses with technical accuracy and commercial awareness
Coordinate technical handovers to delivery and customer success teams to protect the customer experience
Act as a customer advocate with internal Mimecast stakeholders, ensuring feedback is documented, reviewed, and represented
Support channel partners through joint selling, demonstrations, technical enablement sessions, and partner-facing content
Contribute to field marketing activities, including webinars, events, customer or partner meetings, and thought leadership
What You'll Bring
Proven experience as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or in a similar customer-facing technical role, preferably with a cybersecurity vendor and supporting SMB or Midmarket customers
Confident communication and executive presence, with the ability to read the room, adapt your message, hold attention, and explain complex ideas in plain language
Strong commercial instincts and an understanding of what moves a deal forward, including experience qualifying opportunities, positioning value, and helping build a compelling business case
Exposure to structured sales methodologies such as MEDDPICC, Sandler, Challenger, or similar approaches
Hands-on technical knowledge in one or more cybersecurity domains, such as email security, insider risk and data loss prevention, security awareness, endpoint protection, or identity and access management
Familiarity with SaaS platforms and cloud-delivered security solutions; experience with threat intelligence or security analytics solutions such as LogRhythm, Splunk, Rapid7, or Microsoft Azure Sentinel is a plus
Experience working with channel partners through joint demonstrations, partner enablement, or technical capability-building
Strong presentation, demonstration, and written communication skills, paired with curiosity, a desire to learn, and a competitive spirit
Familiarity with AI tools, such as Claude, to support day-to-day work
Willingness to travel based on business needs, including marketing events and customer, prospect, or partner meetings; relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, vendor-specific credentials, or equivalent are a plus
The on-target earnings (OTE) range for this position is 112,000 - 168,000 USD (OTE) plus benefits. This range represents the minimum and maximum new hire compensation for this role. The position may also be eligible for incentive plans and additional benefits, in accordance with company policy and local regulations. Samsara
Who we are
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.
Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role:
As a Sales Engineer at Samsara, you’d be an integral part of a diverse team working to help modernize essential industries through the application of cutting-edge IoT solutions. Your work would directly contribute to a cleaner, more efficient and productive supply chain by creating safer roadways, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, and providing a consolidated platform for connecting operations. Our daily customer engagements include conversations around how IoT can positively impact logistics management, workplace safety programs, fleet maintenance strategies, global asset management, and regulatory compliance. This means a successful SE at Samsara will develop a thorough understanding of the application of IoT hardware and sensors, hands-on hardware installation strategies, managing data collection over carrier networks, presenting a robust cloud infrastructure, and building third-party system integrations (via our open API) to ensure the best technical solution is presented to Samsara customers.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the Midwest region of the United States except for San Francisco Bay Metros, New York City Metro and Washington DC Metro. This position requires travel up to 50% of the time and proximity to an international airport is preferred.
You should apply if:
- You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
- You have an innate curiosity about how businesses work: One day you’ll meet with someone in waste management and the next you may be learning about the inner workings of a food distribution center. Our top sales team members seek to learn the ins and outs of the businesses they support in order to make a larger impact.
- You build genuine relationships with your customers: The industries we serve have relied on pen-and-paper solutions for years and haven’t been met with the type of technology we offer. Our customer's value earned trust and human relationships built over time.
- You want to be with the best: Samsara’s high-performance culture means you’ll be surrounded by the best and challenged to go farther than you have before.
- You are a team player: At Samsara, sales is a team sport. We help each other out by sharing best practices and focusing on winning as a team.
In this role, you will:
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
- Become an expert on Samsara products: where the rubber of cutting-edge tech (IoT, AI, computer vision) meets the road of driving digital transformation for physical operations.
- Articulate to prospects how businesses like theirs use Samsara today to solve challenges common to their industry.
- Deliver the work products that get deals done. Think discoveries, demonstrations, value assessments, proof of concept implementations, etc.
- Walk installers through any scenario, explaining best practices for installing Samsara products and helping build deployment plans.
- Write scripts against our open API that solve real-world problems for companies that deliver essential services (for example), and document them for your fellow SE’s to use.
- Open the door for deeper entrenchment into accounts (integration, upsell, cross sell) by becoming a consultant to your customers.
- Act as a liaison between Samsara’s product and sales teams, translating technical feedback and enrolling the right customers in our beta programs.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Bachelors’ of Science degree from a 4 year accredited university

- Basic understanding of electronics and electrical systems
- Experience with the following concepts: technical consulting, cloud software, cloud-connected hardware, computer networking, business systems integration, automation and control systems

- Work experience building solutions leveraging open API’s
- Understanding of vehicle diagnostic systems, including Controller Area Networks (CAN bus) and Power Take Off (PTO) applications

As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role:
As an Enterprise Sales Engineer at Samsara, you’ll be splitting your time across two major focus areas; (1) supporting senior-level sellers in an attempt to grow existing customers, or win new customers, and (2) contributing to the SE Team as a senior resource. There is an expectation that an Enterprise SE is highly accountable for each technical sale, meaning that strong storytelling, objection handling, custom workarounds, advanced integrations, and extensive hands-on experience are requirements to win most deals. Takeaways from these activities should be shared across the SE Team via team meetings, messaging tools, etc.
Additionally, an Enterprise Sales Engineer is accountable for carving out time to source and deliver product information, conduct testing of alpha products/features, manage projects, and build process improvements and automation that will scale the broader SE Team. An Enterprise Sales Engineer will still carry a quota, so a successful Enterprise Sales Engineer will possess excellent time management skills and will maintain a clear focus on retiring quota in addition to these other senior responsibilities.

- You are a team player: At Samsara, sales is a team sport. We help each other out by sharing best practices and focus on winning as a team.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct product demonstrations and facilitate live proof-of-concept trials for prospective customers, and ensure these prospects understand - and are fully utilizing - the Samsara platform.
- Work closely with Product Management, and other relevant teams, to help develop the Samsara platform.
- Demonstrate the value proposition of Samsara’s products and services along with the platform's core capabilities on-site, remotely via webinar sessions, or at field events such as conferences and trade shows.
- Respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs.
- Have the ability to be organized and analytical, and eliminate sales obstacles using creative and adaptive approaches.
- Demonstrate comfort working for a dynamic technical organization with a fast-growing partner and customer base.
- Remain highly available to Sales and cross-functional teams, making a measurable impact on Sales and product development in your region, and contributing to SE Team enablement.
