Director, Business Development, Sales
Zumper
About Zumper
Zumper is building a smarter future for multifamily renting and marketing. For more than a decade, we’ve helped millions of renters find their next home, giving us first-hand knowledge of how people search for, discover, and choose where to live.
Today, Zumper serves both sides of the rental market. Millions of renters use our marketplace to find their next home, and the teams behind those properties use our platform to reach renters with tools that simplify marketing across every channel and touchpoint.
Zumper’s investors include Kleiner Perkins, Goodwater Capital, Headline, Dawn Capital, and Blackstone. As we enter our next chapter, we're looking for people who want to challenge how things have always been done and help move renting forward. Come build with us.
About this opportunity
We're looking for a relentless Director, Business Development, Sales to own the top of our growth engine — identifying, pursuing, and closing net-new enterprise accounts from first outreach through signed contract. You'll build and manage your own pipeline, run a disciplined outbound motion, and navigate complex, multi-stakeholder deals from cold to close.
This role is built for someone who thrives in the hunt: you love the blank-slate challenge of a new prospect, you're energized by competition, and you know how to turn "not interested" into a meeting. Once a deal closes, you'll partner closely with our Expansion and Renewal teams to ensure a seamless handoff and that the customer relationship is set up for long-term success. If you're a self-directed closer who wants credit for what you create and a growth path you control, this is your seat.
This role reports to our SVP, Sales & Marketing.
What you'll do
- Build and manage your own pipeline from scratch through outbound prospecting, cold outreach, and competitive displacement — consistently developing net-new opportunities across your territory
- Lead complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles from first conversation to signed contract, including discovery, demo, negotiation, and close
- Multi-thread across economic buyers, champions, and technical evaluators to build broad organizational alignment and protect deals throughout the process
- Maintain disciplined pipeline hygiene and deliver accurate forecasts within ±10% of committed close each quarter
- Complete thorough handoffs to Expansion and Renewal teams post-close, setting every new account up for long-term success
- Travel up to 50% of the time during peak season (May–October) to attend field events, meet prospects in-person, and close key opportunities
Who you are
- 7–10 years of multi-family sales experience, with a background in building industry relationships and a strong, consistent history of sales performance
- A strong networker, communicator & leader
- A proven negotiator of complex, multi-stakeholder deals including pricing, contract terms, and multi-year agreements — with a track record of closing at or above quota
- A strategic problem solver who can develop solutions and has an eye for continuous improvement
- Experience in MarTech, AdTech, or SaaS sales strongly preferred; familiarity selling into property management, multifamily, or real estate tech is a plus
Compensation
The US total target compensation for this role, including base salary and variable earnings, is $200,000 – $225,000. Where an offer falls within that range depends on your experience, skills, and the cost of labor in your local market — we benchmark against several U.S. geographic tiers and adjust accordingly.
What we offer
- Fully remote, with a home office stipend to set up your workspace
- Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance options with up to 100% premium coverage
- 401k plan + 3% company match
- Stock options
- FSAs, HSAs, life insurance, and short & long-term disability insurance
- Up to 12-weeks of paid parental leave
- Flexible vacation policy - work hard and take time off when you need it
- Health & wellness and internet reimbursements
- Group training and individual professional development programs
- Team activities, virtual company-wide hosted games, and virtual happy hours
- Weekly insight into company metrics
- Employee Resource Group (zERG) that celebrates all communities - Black, LGBTQIA+, Women, Asian & Pacific Islanders, and more! zERG works together to create safe spaces for candid conversations
- Hackathons (not overnight!)

We connect skilled professionals with meaningful, long-term engagements across web technologies, digital experience platforms, and enterprise software delivery — offering competitive compensation, flexible engagement models, and a collaborative, remote-friendly culture.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Sales Director to help build and grow our Software Services practice.
This role is focused on selling custom software development, application engineering, systems integration, modernization, and related technology services to mid-market and enterprise clients.
This is not a traditional account management role. We need someone who can create new business, open doors, develop strategic relationships, and help shape how we take our software services capabilities to market.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in technology services sales and has previously helped grow a services practice, enter new accounts, or develop new go-to-market channels.
Key Responsibilities
Build and manage a pipeline of new Software Services opportunities.
Sell custom software development, application engineering, modernization, integration, and related consulting services.
Develop relationships with CIOs, CTOs, engineering leaders, digital leaders, and other enterprise decision-makers.
Prospect into new accounts and create opportunities through direct outreach, referrals, partnerships, and existing networks.
Identify the right industries, accounts, channels, and partnerships for the practice.
Help refine the go-to-market strategy, messaging, and positioning for Software Services.
Lead discovery and commercial conversations with prospective clients.
Work closely with technical leadership to shape solutions, project scopes, proposals, and pricing.
Expand existing client relationships by identifying opportunities across additional teams and business units.
Build relationships within relevant technology ecosystems and partner networks.
Help establish a repeatable sales process for the practice.
Maintain ownership of opportunities from initial outreach through contract close.
Location & Market Focus
Open to candidates based in the U.S
This role will primarily support growth within the U.S. market.
Must have experience selling to U.S.-based clients, preferably mid-market and enterprise organizations.
Strong understanding of U.S. B2B sales cycles, buyer expectations, commercial conversations, and enterprise relationship development.
Must be comfortable working across U.S. business hours (Central Time) as needed to support prospects, clients, and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
Required Experience
8+ years of experience in technology services, consulting, software development, or systems integration sales.
Proven success selling project-based software or technology consulting services.
Experience selling into mid-market and enterprise organizations.
Strong new-business development and prospecting experience.
Experience managing complex B2B sales cycles.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior technology and business stakeholders.
Experience working closely with technical teams during discovery, solutioning, and proposal development.
Strong understanding of how professional services and software engineering engagements are sold.
Excellent negotiation, presentation, and executive communication skills.
Highly Preferred
Experience helping build or grow a technology services practice.
Experience creating or executing go-to-market strategies for a new service offering or business unit.
Existing enterprise relationships or partner networks.
Experience within a systems integrator, software development consultancy, digital engineering company, or technology services firm.
Experience selling engagements in the $100K to $500K+ range.
Experience working with distributed or global delivery teams.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means consistently creating qualified opportunities, opening new enterprise relationships, and establishing a repeatable path for growing the Software Services business.
We are looking for someone who can do more than inherit existing accounts. This person should be comfortable creating opportunities, developing the market, and helping turn the practice into a scalable revenue-generating business.
