The position supports defect identification and verification, sprint demonstrations, user acceptance testing, and release-readiness activities.

This position is remote, with Chicago-area candidates preferred.

Note: By applying to this position, you acknowledge and consent to having your resume included in an active competitive government contract bid.

Duties & Responsibilities

The QA/Test Automation Engineer will:

  • Analyze requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, workflows, and technical documentation to determine testing needs.
  • Develop and maintain functional test scenarios, test cases, test scripts, test data, and expected results.
  • Validate accession-processing workflows, business rules, calculations, decision logic, integrations, data relationships, and exception paths.
  • Ensure test cases are traceable to approved requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and identified risks.
  • Maintain traceability among requirements, test cases, test results, defects, corrections, and release outcomes.
  • Conduct functional, integration, system, exploratory, regression, smoke, and end-to-end testing.
  • Develop, execute, maintain, or improve automated regression tests where appropriate.
  • Identify repeatable, stable, and high-value test scenarios suitable for automation.
  • Support the execution of automated tests through approved build, test, or continuous-integration pipelines.
  • Prepare representative test data while protecting sensitive information.
  • Execute tests in development, integration, test, staging, or other Government-approved environments.
  • Document test results and retain complete, repeatable, and auditable test evidence.
  • Capture screenshots, logs, system responses, data comparisons, and other evidence needed to demonstrate test outcomes.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through resolution.
  • Prepare defect reports with reproducible steps, expected results, actual results, severity, evidence, and affected requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers and senior testers to reproduce issues, clarify expected behavior, and support root-cause analysis.
  • Verify defect corrections and perform targeted regression testing to identify unintended impacts.
  • Participate in defect-triage meetings and communicate testing progress, unresolved issues, and quality concerns.
  • Support Government user acceptance testing by preparing test cases and data, assisting users, documenting results, and tracking findings.
  • Distinguish potential defects from training, configuration, data, environment, or requirements issues.
  • Support sprint demonstrations, capability reviews, operational validation, and stakeholder-feedback activities.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity personnel to verify approved security corrections and associated regression impacts.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily coordination, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain test artifacts, defect records, evidence, status information, and quality metrics in approved tools and repositories.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test coverage, automation, defect prevention, evidence management, and quality practices.

Role Overview

As a Senior QA Engineer, you will be responsible for quality in a new product squad working in US hours on a crypto payment platform. The role is automation-first: you write and maintain automated tests on top of a shared test framework, move routine regression into CI, and complement automation with hands-on exploratory and acceptance testing for client-facing releases. Success means the squad ships client-facing functionality confidently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the test strategy and execution for the squad: acceptance, exploratory, and regression testing
  • Write and maintain automated UI and API tests on the shared test framework
  • Own and prioritize the automation backlog; move routine regression into CI so releases are not blocked on manual passes
  • Review product requirements and acceptance criteria with product and engineering, providing feedback before development starts
  • Verify client-facing releases and run acceptance testing before they reach clients
  • Communicate with stakeholders and third-party vendors about ongoing product issues
  • Maintain QA documentation and reports, including release testing and escaped defects reports

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a QA Engineer on web applications
  • Strong experience writing and maintaining automated test scripts for UI, API, or backend tests
  • Good programming skills in TypeScript
  • Proficiency in a modern automation framework, i.e. Playwright
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Hands-on manual testing skills: exploratory, regression, smoke, and acceptance testing
  • Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Insomnia or Postman
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries for testing and data verification
  • Understanding of the test pyramid and automation strategy
  • Proficient use of AI tooling in test design and coding, with critical review of AI-generated output
  • Prior crypto experience is optional; building a working understanding of crypto and stablecoin payment flows on the job is a mandatory part of the role
  • High agency: you raise quality risks while they are still cheap to fix and drive them to a decision
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English

Preferred Experience

  • Fintech, payments, or crypto domain experience
  • Experience with Jira and TestRail (or similar products)
  • Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI)
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and shift-left practices
  • Performance testing experience

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Engineering Manager.

Location

Remote. USA, Argentina, or Brazil. The role works US business hours (Eastern Time).

Compensation and Benefits

As an independent contractor, you'll enjoy the flexibility to determine how and when you deliver your work, while partnering closely with our team to meet agreed milestones and business objectives. Compensation and engagement terms will be outlined in your contractor agreement.

Additional Benefits

  • Company issued laptop
  • Technology Accessories
  • Annual In-Person Full-Team Meetup
