Product Development Owner
Buffalo Grove, IL
Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Remote
Do you want to build software that removes the manual work tax professionals dread every cycle?
CSC Corptax is looking for a Product Owner who pairs strong product fundamentals with a practical, hands-on approach to AI. You will own outcomes for a product area, work with your scrum team inside an agile delivery model, and find ways to eliminate the repetitive data preparation and validation work our clients do today. You will also use AI in your own daily work to move faster from client problem to shipped capability. Some of your work will extend an established product; some will mean shaping a new concept or rethinking an area from the ground up.
If you measure success by client outcomes, like taking apart a messy process to find what can be automated, and see AI as a tool to change how work gets done (not a buzzword), we want to talk with you.
Some of the things that you will be doing?
- Own outcomes for your product area: Maintain a Now/Next/Later roadmap tied to system year and PI goals. Define success metrics before work starts, commit to “Now” scope you can deliver, and make clear trade-off decisions when priorities change, including when to cut, pivot, or stop work that evidence says will not deliver the outcome.
- Shape new concepts and rethink existing areas: Take new products, features, and concepts from idea to adoption, and rebuild existing areas when the current approach no longer serves clients. Make scope decisions with incomplete information, adjust requirements as evidence comes in, and say no without stalling the team.
- Eliminate manual preparation and validation work: Map how clients prepare, reconcile, and validate data today. Identify the repetitive, error-prone steps and design product capabilities (automation, rules-based checks, AI-assisted workflows) that remove them. Quantify the impact in hours saved, errors prevented, and cycle time reduced.
- Apply AI responsibly in the product: Partner with engineering to identify where AI adds measurable client value. Define the guardrails a regulated tax environment requires: accuracy, auditability, explainability, data security, and clear points for human review. Before AI work starts, set accuracy thresholds, test datasets, and evaluation criteria with engineering so the team knows what “good enough to ship” means.
- Use AI to work more efficiently: Use AI to draft and refine Features, user stories, acceptance criteria, test scenarios, and release notes; analyze usage data and client feedback; and explore the codebase to understand current behavior before writing requirements.
- Run the backlog in an agile framework: Write clear backlog items with testable acceptance criteria in Azure DevOps or Linear. Lead refinement, sprint planning, PI planning, and sprint demos. Identify and manage dependencies across teams.
- Make insight-driven decisions: Use product analytics, support case trends, and client research to prioritize. Back major roadmap decisions with data, and define and review adoption KPIs within 90 days of each release.
- Own the client experience end to end: Partner with the escalation owner assigned to your scrum team to understand what clients are reporting about your product, prioritize client issues, and write actionable work items for bugs and enhancements. Validate fixes through user acceptance testing, and apply Corptax UX standards so experiences stay consistent across products.
- Drive awareness and adoption with go-to-market: Work closely with the go-to-market, Product Marketing, and Marketing teams from concept through launch. Use their view of pipeline strength, demo feedback from sales engineers, and account manager feedback on the product and adoption to shape priorities. Build awareness for new products, features, and concepts, and bring client and market feedback back into the backlog so every release is positioned, adopted, and measured.
- Communicate with clarity: Present roadmap, progress, and risks to clients, sales, and executives. Review client-facing communication for accuracy and tone, and raise missed commitments early with a recovery plan.
What technical skills, experience and qualifications do you need?
- 5+ years of recent product ownership or product management experience, or tax and accounting experience with direct involvement in software delivery
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on use of AI tools in daily work, with concrete examples of a manual, repetitive process you automated or eliminated and the measured result
- Ability to break a complex workflow into discrete steps, identify which steps can be automated or validated by rules, and write requirements for them
- Experience taking a new product, feature, or concept from idea to adoption, or rethinking an existing area, with requirements that changed as evidence came in
- Working knowledge of AI limitations (accuracy, hallucination, data privacy) and judgment on when human review is required
- Working knowledge of agile methodologies and backlog tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or Linear
- Comfort working with data: Excel, basic SQL, and product analytics tools
- Effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences, including clients and executives
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage time, and deliver on commitments, and to make the call to cut, pivot, or stop work when the evidence says so
Preferred:
- Corporate tax experience (provision, US or international compliance, Pillar Two)
- Experience with workflow and data automation tools such as Power Automate or Alteryx
- Comfort reading code or navigating a repository (GitHub) to understand system behavior
- Experience building reusable AI workflows, prompt libraries, or agents
What success looks like in your first year:
- You own a Now/Next/Later roadmap for your product area with success metrics defined for every “Now” item
- You have shipped at least one capability that removes a manual preparation or validation step for clients, with the time saved measured
- You use AI to accelerate backlog creation: your “Now” backlog is refined and ready for the team to build, and you work ahead to shape “Next” and “Later” items into Features before each PI
- Your team delivers at least 90% of committed “Now” items each PI, and you cut, pivot, or stop work early when evidence shows it will not deliver the client outcome
