About SafelyYou

SafelyYou’s passionate mission is to empower safer, more person-centered care across senior living through world-leading AI, industry-changing hardware, and remote expert clinicians, significantly improving outcomes for residents while increasing peace of mind for families and reducing costs for communities.

Originating in 2015 as the doctoral research of CEO George Netscher—and inspired by his own family's experience with Alzheimer's disease—SafelyYou was spun out of UC Berkeley’s Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, one of the top five AI research groups in the world. And today, our company is solving critical challenges in senior living, from resident falls and ER visits to staffing concerns, length of stay, and NOI. All helping ensure that communities can focus on improved care for residents while still reaching their financial goals.

SafelyYou is one of five most innovative fall technologies referenced in the Senate Falls Report (2019), a winner of the McKnight’s Tech Partner of the Year, and has been named to Fortune’s Impact 20 list, which recognizes companies making people’s lives better through innovation.

Your Role at SafelyYou
SafelyYou's AI+Human-In_Loop solutions (fall detection, mobility, severity tagging, presence, and change detection) powers every product we sell. You own the AI capability roadmap as a platform: the reusable models and signals our customer-facing teams turn into outcomes, and the path by which research becomes production value. You'll ship existing models into production in short cycles, help place a few longer research bets, and keep SafelyYou ahead as AI techniques change fast. AI research leadership sets research direction and customer-facing PMs own customer outcomes; you own what the AI can do, how well, and at what cost.

Key Responsibilities:

The Numbers You'll Own

  • Readiness. Every model release passes an AI-readiness gate (accuracy, false alarms, review cost, rollback) within the next year.

  • Quality and cost. A measurable reduction in with no loss in detection.

  • Leverage. At least one capability reused by two or more product teams, and one research bet taken to a clear continue-or-stop decision.

What You'll Own

  • One capability roadmapacross edge and cloud, ranked by cross-team leverage.

  • How AI is consumed: outputs, confidence thresholds, and latency and accuracy expectations.

  • Model readiness and field performance: criteria from research to shadow deployment to production, then precision, recall, and drift in live communities.

  • Human review economics: a feedback loop with our clinical reviewers that improves models and reduces review per event.

  • Research to value: early-learning milestones for 6–12 month bets, plus data priorities (curation, edge cases, labeling).

  • Emerging AI:track how newer techniques (vision-language and multimodal models, agentic systems, efficient on-device models) change what's possible, and turn the right ones into SafelyYou capabilities, such as richer event understanding and less human review.

  • New sensing modalitieswith Hardware & Sensing: you own what models can extract; they own modality selection and cost.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • The hard requirement:7+ years of product management, including 3+ years leading ML or computer vision products you've taken to production and operated at scale.

  • Fluency in modern AI/ML (computer vision, multimodal and vision-language models, evaluation), credible with researchers and ML engineers. Engineers who moved into product are welcome.

  • Well versed in how newer AI techniques have emerged, from foundation and vision-language models to agentic systems and efficient on-device models, with a clear point of view on where they apply in care settings and where they don't.

  • Experience deploying models under real-world constraints, such as on-device compute and latency versus accuracy.

  • Evidence-driven: you design evaluations, run shadow deployments, and balance open-ended research with commercial commitments.

  • Strongly preferred: human-in-the-loop systems, non-optical sensing, or safety-critical AI in healthcare.

Salary Range:$220,000 - $240,000 USD / $200,000 - $220,000 CAD commensurate with experience

Overview

This team, AI Research & Engineering (AIRE), builds the applied machine learning systems that run our business at scale, from prototype to production. This role is ideal for a product manager who is equally comfortable sourcing training data and writing evals for our models, standing up production-ready pipelines, and shipping tools that help internal teams make better decisions. You'll work across computer vision, structured data, and agentic AI workflows, with direct impact on products used by graders, researchers, and collectors. Every one of those products is only as good as the data behind it, and you'll own that data from first capture to final correction.

As a Staff Product Manager, you'll decide what training data we collect, in what order, and how human corrections flow back into our models, partnering closely with ML Engineering and subject matter experts to improve model accuracy, development speed, and cost across the portfolio. You'll bring the technical fluency to earn credibility with engineers, the judgment to turn ambiguous problems into clear strategy, and the systems thinking to build feedback loops that make every model better than the last.

What You’ll Do

  • Set strategy and make the calls: Define the strategy for our training data capabilities, prioritize what data we collect and when, and own decisions around quality, review depth, confidence thresholds, and cost.
  • Build the data collection pipeline: Own data collection end to end, including procurement, preparation, capture, expert labeling, and annotation, and build scalable systems across each stage.
  • Optimize for throughput: Coordinate work across teams and sites to maximize throughput, identify bottlenecks, and drive capacity planning across specialties and locations.
  • Own human-in-the-loop workflows: Partner with subject matter experts and power users to define review processes and feedback loops that turn human corrections into valuable training data.
  • Partner across functions: Work closely with ML Engineering, Operations, and subject matter experts to set direction, align priorities, and drive execution without relying on direct authority.
  • Measure and iterate: Define the metrics that demonstrate data quality, model improvement, throughput, and cost efficiency, and communicate progress and tradeoffs to senior leadership.
  • Raise the bar across Product: Mentor other Product Managers, contribute to product practices, and build documentation and mechanisms that help scale product thinking across the organization.
  • Build with AI: Use emerging AI tools and coding agents, including Claude Cowork, Claude Code, and Codex, to accelerate product development, improve workflows, and find new ways to operate at scale.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of product management experience, including experience building a product, platform, or capability from the ground up.
  • Strategic and execution-oriented: You can set direction, make tradeoffs, influence operational decisions, and drive execution in ambiguous environments.
  • Experience with AI
  • /ML or AI-Enabled Operational Workflows: You’ve worked on products where both models and human expertise play a role, and understand how to design workflows that leverage both effectively.
  • Strong systems thinker: You can identify constraints across complex, multi-step workflows and understand how changes in one part of a system impact throughput, quality, and cost elsewhere.
  • Comfortable owning business outcomes: You’ve owned metrics tied to cost, efficiency, quality, or other measurable business outcomes and use data to drive decisions.
  • Strong partner and influencer: You build credibility with technical teams, operators, and subject matter experts and can influence effectively without direct authority.
  • Hands-on builder: You’re comfortable rolling up your sleeves to establish new processes, pipelines, documentation, and operating mechanisms. The first year will involve significant 0-to-1 work.
  • Exceptional written communication: You can clearly articulate strategy, plans, tradeoffs, and decisions for both technical and business audiences.
  • Willingness to travel: This role will require travel to multiple data collection sites, approximately once per month to once per quarter.

The salary range for this position is $165,848 - $269,259. Actual compensation on this range varies based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including location, job level, prior experience, and skill set.
