Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer III will support manufacturing operations by developing and implementing production methods, improving manufacturing processes, optimizing equipment utilization, and driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility. This individual will work closely with Production, Tooling, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to improve throughput, reduce downtime, enhance product quality, and support new product introductions.
This position is highly visible within the organization and requires a hands-on engineer who is comfortable spending significant time on the manufacturing floor troubleshooting production issues, validating processes, and identifying opportunities for operational improvement.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes, methods, and controls to support production requirements and quality objectives.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and work-in-process issues while minimizing downtime and improving operational efficiency.
- Evaluate process flow, plant layout, labor utilization, and equipment effectiveness, recommending and implementing improvements where appropriate.
- Support new product introductions through process development, validation activities, production trials, and first-run evaluations.
- Conduct part validation activities and production trial runs to ensure process readiness and repeatability.
- Develop and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), Control Plans, and related process documentation.
- Monitor manufacturing operations to ensure compliance with approved methods, quality standards, and established manufacturing procedures.
- Analyze manufacturing data and production metrics to identify opportunities for increased throughput, reduced scrap, improved productivity, and lower manufacturing costs.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and service providers regarding equipment repairs, upgrades, maintenance activities, and capital improvement projects.
- Evaluate new and existing production equipment and provide recommendations regarding upgrades, replacements, and modernization efforts.
- Support equipment installation, startup, qualification, and optimization activities.
- Assist in the development of manufacturing schedules and project timelines.
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action efforts related to manufacturing performance and product quality.
- Collaborate with Production, Tooling, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel to support manufacturing objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead or participate in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, cost reduction, and process improvement projects.

- Lead station readiness, tooling readiness, equipment readiness, Client readiness, material readiness, process documentation readiness, and quality readiness for new production lines.
- Collaborate with Layout and Industrial Engineering teams to optimize line balance, operator movement, station design, material presentation, line-side storage, capacity, and production flow.
- Work with Equipment and Controls Engineering teams to ensure equipment, fixtures, automation, sensors, HMI, safety systems, and process controls meet manufacturing requirements.
- Support PFEP integration into manufacturing processes, including packaging strategy, sequencing, replenishment, point-of-use storage, line-side delivery, warehouse interfaces, and internal logistics.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, debug, process validation, run-at-rate, ramp-up stabilization, and transition to stable operations.
- Analyze production performance using OEE, cycle time, downtime, yield, scrap, rework, labor utilization, first-time quality, defect trends, and throughput data.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for issues related to process capability, line stoppages, quality defects, rework, scrap, ergonomics, equipment interaction, material flow, or operator efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives using lean manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, VSM, SMED, Poka-Yoke, standardized work, waste elimination, and structured problem-solving methods.
- Evaluate supplier manufacturing feasibility and provide technical inputs for outsourced parts, tooling, fixtures, equipment, and production readiness as required.
Requirements: - Bachelors degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production launch, process development, industrialization, or manufacturing operations support.
- Experience in large-scale manufacturing environments such as automotive, battery, energy, heavy equipment, aerospace, industrial equipment, or high-volume discrete manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production systems, tooling, fixtures, workstations, process documentation, and shop-floor execution.

Position Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer provides technical leadership and support for assembly operations involving transmissions, torque converters, final drives, axles, and related drivetrain products. Key Contributions & Responsibilities

- Support New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Improvement (CPI), and capital project activities, including equipment procurement, installation, validation, and launch.

- Lead projects associated with assembly tooling, automation, process controls, layouts, and manufacturing equipment improvements.
- Introduce and develop new processes for assembly tooling, DC tools, torque systems, PX fixtures, Wireless Mitutoyo gauges, and vision systems, including equipment specifications and installation/validation support.
- Implement improvements related to safety guarding, ergonomics, automation, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Develop and maintain Standard Work documentation and coordinate documentation changes resulting from audits and quality events.
- Assist in training and knowledge transfer activities for manufacturing engineering and shop floor personnel.
- Participate in safety risk assessments, operational change reviews, hazard mitigation efforts, ergonomic evaluations, and injury prevention activities.
Team Structure & Work Environment
- This position works cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Safety, Engineering, Supply Chain, Product Change Control, and Maintenance teams, and requires hands-on presence supporting shop floor assembly operations.
- This is a 1st shift position; however, candidates must be flexible to support 2nd or 3rd shift on an as-needed basis due to the facility's multi-shift operations (occasional, not the norm).
