Position Objective:
The objective of this position is to assemble and sterilize all instruments, instrument trays, utensils, and linen packs. Perform distribution functions as it relates to case carts and sterile instrumentation.
Must be able to perform all Sterile Processing functions. The position requires rotating weekend and on-call requirements. A strict dress code and professional appearance including wearing surgical scrubs are required.
Essential Job Duties:

- Uses established departmental and regulatory standards, principles, and procedures for aseptic technique. Processes and assembles instrument trays, respiratory/anesthesia equipment, linen, and utensils accurately and promptly.
- Uses established schedule to operate steam and plasma sterilizer. In addition, loads unload and move sterilizer carts. Runs verify and record necessary tests on all steamed and plasma equipment used in the department. Ensures that Bowie-Dick removal test is run on pre-vacuum steam sterilizer each morning and after repairs. Reports all malfunctions to the biomedical department, department supervisor, and the O.R. supervisor.
- Precepts and verifies competency and skill development of staff as appropriate providing meaningful feedback to Training and Staff Development Coordinator and Clinical Operations Supervisor or Manager.
- Perform spot checks of paperwork, labeling, and biological reads.
- Inspects packages to ensure all external indicators, filters, and/or labels are securely affixed to items, returns non-satisfactory products to the instrument room.
- Performs (HLD) High level disinfection with 100% accuracy.
- Utilizes patient-specific pick lists to accurately gather surgical instruments and disposable supplies requested by the attending surgeon or another Peri-Operative representative.
- Documents case cart build process in SPM, continuously updating the record as items are fulfilled to maintain the integrity of the needs list. And responds to OR requests and participates in OR huddles as needed.
- Communicates unmet surgical supply requests to leadership for resolution assistance.
- Utilizes patient-specific pick lists to accurately gather surgical instruments and disposable supplies requested by the attending surgeon or another Peri-Operative representative.
- Documents case cart build process in SPM, continuously updating the record as items are fulfilled to maintain the integrity of the needs list.
- Performs scheduled and cyclic physical inventory of supplies and instruments within the department.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
Required Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED Experience: Completion of a Central Sterile Processing program through an accredited institution. Two years of experience as a sterile processing technician. Advancement to tech II based on department needs, competency and performance.
Required License / Certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD certification preferred

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Demands –
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must be able to frequently lift to 35 lbs. stoop, bend, pull, and place and retrieve material.

Supervisor - Central Sterile Services

Position Objective:
Supervises the Central Sterile Services technical staff, to include OR case cart assembly and distribution, prep and pack and decontamination procedures, in accordance with the Medical Canter's standards, policies, and procedures, and compliance with applicable voluntary and regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission, AAMI, AORN, CDC, SGNA_
This position has authority to perform supervisory duties including but not limited to hiring, evaluating performance, issuing final disciplinary actions under the review of Human Resources, and recommending discharge in collaboration with members of management and Human Resources
Essential Job Duties:
Supervises the CS technical staff to include orientation, training, coaching, disciplinary action, performance reviews, and developmental goals Directs the daily activities of the department to include scheduling and work assignments.
Provides continuing education for staff including routine training and updates related to new equipment, processes, procedures, or service changes. Maintains educational and in-service records to assist with re-certification requirements.
Performs quality assurance and improvement functions; reviews production/sterilization documentation and collects data to monitor department effectiveness; collaborates with the manager on process improvement initiatives and problem resolution
Monitors the case cart assembly process to ensure accurate pulling of supplies and instrumentation per surgeon-specific •pick tickets" to include. timely assembly and delivery, accurate identification of surgeon and patient; accurate and timely processing of returns, and filling of supply orders. Provides for effective utilization of human and material resources; projects staffing based on volumes to meet departmental needs while remaining fiscally responsible.
Assists in the development of departmental goals and objectives consistent with the organization's mission and vision. Assists With the development and implementation of new departmental standards, policies, and procedures, reviews and updates periodically.
Maintain adequate inventory of non-stock items to support daily operations of the CS department. Works in conjunction With Materials Management to resolve issues with disposable inventory to support OR cases; participates in physical inventories.
Provides technical assistance to CS technical staff, Medical Canter Staff, including OR Team Leaders, for resolving instrument tray issues, health care facilities, and physicians' offices concerning decontamination and sterilization.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
• Five years of experience in a sterile processing or surgical services environment
• One year of which included experience In a lead or supervisory position.
Required License/Certifications:
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
• Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification preferred
