We are looking for a HVAC Controls Sales Engineer in our Pittsburgh, Pa office. The position will be developing new and existing accounts in the industrial and commercial markets. The candidate must be a hands-on, self-motivated, outgoing and dependable individual with the drive to succeed in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Meet with current customers to review potential controls projects.
- Develop scope of work and estimated cost. Meet with customer to review.
- Service the existing customers within the Tudi Mechanical customer maintenance base.
- Aggressively develop new customers and new market channels.
- Perform site surveys, estimate, prepare and propose consultative sales proposals to meet the customers’ needs.
- Maintain customer activity and documentation in CRM software (SalesForce).
- Meet company revenue and gross profit dollar goals.
Requirements
- Vocational School four year program or an Associate degree in mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field.
- 5 + years sales experience in the electronic and/or mechanical systems industry.
- Knowledgeable in HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques.
- Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
- Understand the financial sales impact on cash flow, pay-back, ROI, leasing vs purchase, etc.
- Proven ability to develop new business and aggressively close sales.
- Ability to develop sales action plans.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess excellent presentation skills with a strong focus on the customers’ pain and buying motives.

This dynamic role is a blend of 70% technical estimating and 30% customer-facing sales, making it ideal for those who excel at both problem-solving and building relationships.
Main tasks:
- Technical Estimating & Solutions Development: Prepare technical estimates, quotations, and solutions for traction power substation and electrified rail applications.
- Customer Collaboration: Engage directly with clients to deliver tailored solutions and presentations while maintaining long-term relationships.
- Product Expertise: Provide support on DC and AC products, including:
- DC switchgear, high-speed breakers, and panels
- Rectifiers, power converters, and voltage limiting devices
- Multi-function protection relays and custom electro-mechanical solutions
- Sales Strategy: Develop a strategic business plan to build a robust pipeline, identify opportunities, and achieve annual sales goals.
- Financial Analysis: Model financial business cases to ensure profitability and competitiveness.
- Competitive Intelligence: Lead responses for RFPs/RFIs and stay informed on market trends.
- Representation & Networking: Attend trade associations, conferences, and client events to represent the company and educate stakeholders on product advancements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred; Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical experience will also be considered.
- Sales Engineer, Project Manager, or technical sales background with custom electro-mechanical solutions.
- Prior experience in power distribution, switchgear manufacturing, or similar roles (3+ years preferred)
- Familiarity with DC and AC power systems (Low Voltage and Medium Voltage).
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Excellent Excel and MS Office Suite (Office 365) proficiency.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and adaptable in complex technical environments.
- Ability to analyze technical requirements and create clear, accurate solutions.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, international team setting.
