Position Summary: Under the supervision of a nurse, and with attention to each patient’s developmental needs, this role performs routine patient care activities and delegated clinical procedures as designated by competency standards. The position supports nursing staff by carrying out foundational patient care functions that promote comfort, safety, and overall well‑being. The caregiver demonstrates ongoing skill development by seeking guidance for unfamiliar tasks and proactively confirming understanding when managing more complex care situations. Location: Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD Schedule: Per diem shifts or contract opportunities available Coverage needed 7 days per week 12-hour shifts (days and overnights) Weekend and holiday availability required based on staffing needs No on-call requirements Responsibilities Provides basic patient care under the direction of licensed nursing staff, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, feeding, toileting, and mobility, following established protocols Collects and documents routine patient data (e.g., vital signs, intake/output) accurately and timely Observes and reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly Maintains a clean, safe patient environment in compliance with infection control and safety standards Responds to patient requests and call lights in a timely and compassionate manner Demonstrates developing competence by seeking assistance with new or unfamiliar tasks Asks questions and confirms instructions to ensure understanding, particularly in more complex or unfamiliar situations Follows established procedures and direction consistently while building confidence and skill proficiency Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Active Maryland CNA License in good standing Vocational or Technical Training typically obtained through completion of an approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program BLS Certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network At least 1 year of inpatient acute care experience within the last 2 years , involving hands‑on patient care in hospital or hospital‑level settings, focused on rapid assessment, stabilization, and continuous monitoring Must reside in Bethesda or the surrounding area to ensure reliable commute and on‑site availability for scheduled shifts Johns Hopkins Health System and its affiliates are an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employers. Responsibilities Demonstrates knowledge of CT techniques, procedures, equipment operation, anatomy, and departmental policies necessary for job performance. Operates CT equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images by selecting appropriate protocols and technical factors based on patient age, physical condition, and clinical presentation. Provides CT imaging coverage for emergency room and inpatient populations. Positions geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and infant patients appropriately for assigned procedures and reviews image quality to ensure diagnostic accuracy, performing additional scans as necessary. Verifies patient identifiers, procedure orders, and other pertinent information; obtains required documentation, including patient questionnaires and informed consent when applicable. Performs venipuncture and injection of contrast material as required. Completes all required documentation, post-processing, image archiving, and exam-related paperwork accurately and timely. Assists patients and answers questions regarding department procedures. Participates in departmental quality-improvement processes and performs assigned quality-control measures. Follows radiation protection procedures for oneself and patients. Maintains CT equipment according to established guidelines and maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area. Qualifications Minimum of High school or GED equivalent required. Work requires completion of an AMA approved program for Radiologic Technology or equivalent which is required in a two year college or technical school program. ARRT certified with current registration required. BLS CPR certification required. Minimum of 1 year experience as a CT Technologist is required. Responsibilities Perform CT examinations in accordance with departmental protocols and safety standards. Obtain and document relevant patient history; prepare patients for procedures and administer oral and IV contrast. Monitor patients during exams, recognize changes in condition, and respond appropriately to emergencies, including CPR/first aid. Verify patient identification and physician orders to ensure exam accuracy and compliance. Provide radiation protection to patients, staff, and self in accordance with established guidelines. Position and transfer patients safely to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, and the CT table. Assist radiologists with CT‑guided interventional procedures, including biopsies. Review relevant laboratory results in EPIC to support exam completion. Perform routine equipment checks, report malfunctions, and coordinate service needs. Maintain a clean, organized work environment, including equipment disinfection and supply management. Manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast‑paced setting with frequent interruptions. Support orientation of new staff and students and communicate effectively using hospital systems. Responsibilities Apply, adjust, and remove splints, casts, braces, and related orthopedic devices using specialized tools and equipment, including cast cutters, spreaders, bending irons, Zimmer frames, traction carts, fracture tables, and Stryker frames. Fabricate casts using materials such as plaster of Paris, fiberglass resin, polyethylene, cotton, and stockinet. Assemble, set, and regulate traction units and other specialized orthopedic devices as directed by physicians or residents. Remove sutures and staples in accordance with clinical guidelines. Fit, adjust, and educate patients on the proper use of medical equipment such as crutches, walkers, and braces. Maintain, stock, and manage orthopedic supplies and equipment, including assigned clinical areas and orthopedic traction carts. Review and monitor inventory to ensure availability of appropriate, safe, and state-of-the-art orthopedic equipment for all patient populations. Communicate courteously and effectively with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff, exchanging routine clinical information and escalating sensitive matters as appropriate. Perform related duties as required or assigned, utilizing basic analytical skills and working knowledge of splinting and bracing practices.
