Netflix is redefining interactive and cinematic entertainment. The N-Tech Manager, Technology Systems and Operations (Creative Tech), based in Vancouver, plays a pivotal role in enabling seamless, secure, and scalable technology experiences for our Games and VFX production teams globally.
This leader drives innovation in creative technology support, automates workflows, and elevates operational excellence to empower Netflix's Games and VFX studios. You will be responsible for the operation, integration, and continuous evolution of technology services that support Netflix's creative production teams. You will refine technical support models, drive automation, and enhance services that underpin Games and VFX production. You'll also manage internal teams and managed service providers (MSPs) to deliver high-quality support while fostering innovation and efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership & Technology Vision
- Act as a key strategic partner to Games and VFX studio leadership and cross-functional business units, aligning technology support roadmaps with long-term studio goals to drive innovation, efficiency, and seamless integration of Games and VFX production workflows.
- Define and execute a technology operations strategy that enhances Games and VFX production efficiency, leveraging automation and technology-first proactive support models to align with Netflix's Games and VFX studio growth and the N-Tech Learning Engine framework.
- Build and develop a high-performing team, fostering an environment of growth, technical excellence, and innovation while leading the evolution of technical support services, ensuring scalability, security, and operational excellence.
- Champion user-centric, efficient technology experiences across all Games and VFX studio operations.
- Operational Management & Service Excellence
- Oversee daily operations of the Technology Systems and Operations Specialist (TSOS) team, ensuring optimal coverage and performance at all times.
- Proactively remove roadblocks for the team by optimizing support workflows, automating troubleshooting, and leveraging real-time analytics to enhance the technology support experience.
- Implement best practices for technical support, issue resolution, and incident management, ensuring rapid response and minimal disruption to Games and VFX studios.
- Establish and refine operational procedures, leveraging data-driven insights to optimize efficiency and scalability while ensuring optimal resource utilization.
- Collaboration & Technical Integration
- Act as a strategic partner to Games and VFX studios, engineering teams, enterprise operations, and strategic sourcing teams, aligning technology roadmaps with business objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve supportability and proactively address recurring technology challenges across Games and VFX production pipelines.
- Ensure seamless integration of Netflix-owned and third-party Games and VFX tools, including emerging GenAI/GenMedia solutions, supporting efficiency, innovation, and secure, scalable creative workflows.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to gather feedback and provide insights, driving continuous improvement.
- Drive alignment across teams by standardizing support processes and ensuring consistency in operational execution.
- Develop root cause analysis reports, identify trends, and implement proactive solutions with the Workforce Productivity teams to mitigate recurring issues.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, ensuring timely resolution through collaboration with engineering, platform, and infrastructure teams.
- Develop and conduct training programs for internal teams and external partners, promoting best practices and technological literacy.
NECESSARY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years' experience managing technical operations or technology support in Games, VFX, animation, or similar production environments, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Deep understanding of Games and/or VFX pipelines, real-time rendering, and DCC and engine tools (e.g., Maya, Nuke, Unreal Engine, Unity).
- Strong understanding of studio network architecture, high-performance storage solutions, and cloud-based Games and/or VFX production environments.
- Hands-on experience with Games/VFX tools, pipelines, automation, and other related systems.
- Proficiency with remote and virtualized workstation technologies (Teradici, Parsec, Citrix, VDI).
- Excellent cross-functional leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to bridge gaps between creative and technical teams.
- Ability to work independently and drive alignment amid ambiguity with minimal supervision.
- Ability to translate complex technical challenges into actionable strategies for executives, developers, and creative teams.
- Experience making informed, agile decisions and executing them quickly at the global/regional level.
- Expertise in utilizing metrics and data to analyze and assess business priorities, drive decision-making, set strategy, and measure success in achieving organizational goals.
- Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, Tableau, Zendesk, and other ITSM tools.
- Experience working with distributed and remote teams in a global Games/VFX production environment.
- Ability to represent the greater organization's mission and vision to teams and stakeholders.

The Opportunity
As an Associate Technical Supervisor at Netflix Animation Studios, you’ll help support the technical vision on an animated feature film by working in close partnership with the Technical Supervisor, Solutions Engineering and creative leadership. You’ll contribute to shaping and evolving the pipeline tools, and workflows to meet the show’s unique creative and technical challenges, ensuring solutions that serve both the artists and align with studio standards.
Focused on the technical success of Fx, Lighting and Compositing on the show, your primary focus will be supporting the creative and visual objectives by providing day‑to‑day technical oversight for pipeline troubleshooting, user support, direction and tool development.
Back End Associate Tech Sup responsibilities
The Back End Associate Tech Sup ensures that all technical processes, tools, and workflows in these areas are running smoothly, meet the show’s creative and technical requirements, and integrate well with the rest of the pipeline. They also provide hands‑on technical leadership to TDs in these departments, support artists with technical challenges, and collaborate with the Technical Supervisor and other Associate Tech Sups to maintain consistency and quality across the entire production.
This includes departments and workflows such as:
- Lighting
- Rendering
- Compositing
- Imaging
- Final Output/Delivery
- Simulation/FX (if not covered by another Associate Tech Sup)
- Pipeline integration and troubleshooting for these stages
What You’ll Do
Technical Responsibilities
- Understand the film’s visual goals and design tools, workflows, and procedures that enable artists to achieve them.
- Troubleshoot and optimize production workflows, providing practical solutions to visual and technical problems through existing tools or new tool development.
- Safeguard artist productivity by testing and validating new tools and pipeline changes, tracking and resolving issues in partnership with Technical Supervisors, Solutions Engineering, and R&D.
- Contribute to building and improving the show and studio‑wide pipeline, ensuring efficient collaboration across departments and supporting broader technical objectives.
Bidding & Scheduling
- Track and manage development initiatives for the show, monitoring estimates, scope, and deadlines, and adjusting plans as needed to keep work on track.
- Partner with the Technical Supervisor to prioritize and resolve top support issues, coordinating cross‑departmental testing to move high‑priority fixes through the pipeline quickly.
- Organize technical work by breaking down projects into manageable parts, aligning fortnightly support allocation, and clearly communicating production and technical information to TDs and Program Managers.
- Collaborate with the Technical Supervisor and Solutions Engineering Manager to prepare estimates, pitches, and plans for show‑specific technical work.
Talent & Performance Management
- Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance to TDs, collaborating with the Solutions Engineering Manager to escape issues through the right channels when needed.
- Mentor and develop TDs, supporting onboarding for new team members and partnering with Technology Talent Management and Solutions Engineering Managers to grow skills across the department.
- Identify team management issues early and work with Tech Talent Management to put constructive solutions in place.
- Foster collaboration and create synergies between different work groups to drive efficiency, optimization, and innovative ways of working.
Communication, Collaboration & Relationship Development
- Communicate clearly and concisely on technical topics, including project status, requirements, problems, and rollout plans, both verbally and in writing.
- Collaborate with Program Managers on scheduling and planning show‑based initiatives, providing accurate status and expectations.
- Tailor communication to your audience: explain issues in accessible, non‑technical language to artists and production, and discuss complex topics in depth with developers and supervisors.
- Confidently present to small teams (e.g. tool demos, pipeline processes, support dashboards) and produce clear written documentation such as specs, tickets, and status updates.
What You’ll Need
- 5+ years of proven pipeline TD experience in animated features, animated TV series, and/or VFX feature films, with demonstrated leadership in feature animation or VFX.
- Strong technical foundation, including solid Python skills (plus PyQt or another GUI toolkit), familiarity with data flow/metadata/publishing concepts, and the ability to review code and troubleshoot issues; basic C++ and USD knowledge are a plus.
- Deep understanding of traditional production workflows, tools, and techniques, with experience using and troubleshooting relevant DCCs and production tracking software such as Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid) or similar.
- Experience with modern software development and collaboration practices, including git/GitHub, code review processes, and Agile methodologies using tools such as Jira.
- Demonstrated strength in problem‑solving, conflict resolution, and risk awareness, with the ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and dynamic team interactions.
- Degree in Animation, Film, Computer Science, Design, Engineering, Math, or Physics, or equivalent professional experience in animation/VFX.
