Position Objective
The Clinical Supervisor directly supervises staff and is a clinical expert practitioner specific to the unit at education/staff development functions as well as designated management functions to promote high quality, cost effective health care.
This position has authority to perform supervisory duties including but not limited to hiring, evaluating performance, issuing final disciplinary actions under the review of Human Resources, and recommending discharge in collaboration with members of management and Human Resources
Essential Functions
1. 1. Clinical Decision Making/Judgment
· Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skill in the specialization of the unit or initiative.
· Provides for the coordination of patient care throughout the continuum for areas of responsibility.
· Serves as an expert clinician, acting as a clinical resource for the staff.
· Works collaboratively with other disciplines in problem analysis and resolution for pathways, protocols
· And patient care delivery.
· Expertly organizes and reprioritizes patient care activities based on subtle and overt and/or environmental changes.
· Assists others in prioritizing patient care.
2. 2. Nurse-Patient Family Relationships
· Expertly provides direct patient care to patients and families in a culturally, developmentally and ethically appropriate manner.
· Demonstrates expert skill in managing and planning care for complex patient/family scenarios including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and learning needs of the patient/family.
3. 3. Clinical Scholarship
· Effectively performs and improves all processes in order to achieve excellence with regard to AAMC’s quality standards and benchmarks.
· As part of unit leadership, collaborates in developing, monitoring and changing practice as a result of performance improvement initiatives.
· As part of unit leadership, collaborates to provide direction for staff development activities and orientation programs and staff meetings
· Member of a professional organization specific to unit/initiative.
· Maintains certification in specialty.
· Supports Evidence Based Practice in clinical specialty to guide nursing practice, development of plans of care and interventions.
4. 4. Clinical Leadership
· Demonstrates the ability to enhance skills and performance of others in order to achieve professional and organizational goals. The competency is demonstrated by systematically providing clear objectives, performance-specific feedback, effective coaching and developmentally experience/opportunities.
· Demonstrates the ability to optimize utilization of staff, matching staff talents and proficiencies to organizational needs in making, evaluating and reorganizing patient care assignments.
· As part of unit leadership, manages daily operational throughout process in collaboration wth other unit leaders, Administrative Coordinator, Care Management, other nursing unit and support services to include room assignments, rounds/huddles, transfers/discharges. Bed Board, full capacity protocol initiation, and effective communication with other disciplines and departments.
· As part of unit leadership is responsible for review and implementation of the Joint Commission standards in collaboration with other unit leaders, including participation in Tracers.
· Fosters interdisciplinary collaboration by chairing or serving as a representative for nursing on hospital-wide and service line committees and/or councils.
· As part of unit leadership, participates in goals setting and prioritization.
· As Unit Supervisor, is responsible for human resource management including but not limited to staffing and scheduling, performance evaluation, disciplinary action, orientation/development, and staff selection.
· Educates and precepts new staff.
· Demonstrates competency in computer documentation when completing patient records and serves as a resource.
· Participates in fiscal management of unit to include ParEX oversight, managing repair requests and follow up for broken equipment, evaluation of new equipment and daily management of schedule to insure appropriate staffing levels for volume and acuity.
Knowledge/Experience:
Required Minimum Education: BSN
Preferred: MSN
Required Minimum Experience: 3 years as an RN in specialty related field
Required License / Certification:
- Maryland RN license
- BLS
- Where applicable, specialty certifications are required by entity and must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Medium
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Nursing Graduate - Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) - D/N - October Cohort - LHAAMC

Overview:
The nursing graduate shall practice only under the direct supervision of a registered nurse who is physically present on the unit to (1) cosign medication transcription, medication administration, and nursing documentation; and (2) continually observe, assist, coordinate, evaluate, and monitor the nursing graduate. The nursing graduate shall use the initials NG after the nursing graduates name as credentials.
Transcribe medication orders per written policies and procedures once skill validation has been successfully completed.
Administer medications and controlled substances and sign controlled substances sheets
Document in the medical record with the abbreviation NG
Perform patient assessments after the initial assessment or after the first assessment of the shift performed by the registered nurse.
Perform and document routine procedures taught within the nursing graduates generic nursing program including placing nasal gastric tubes, performing urinary catheterizations, applying sterile dressings, performing blood sugar checks and obtaining specimens.
Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program.
Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program. Eligible to sit for NCLEX – A nursing graduate shall cease practice as a nursing graduate immediately if the nursing graduate fails two attempts at the NCLEX exam or has not successfully taken and passed the NCLEX exam within 120 days of application to the board of nursing.
A nursing graduate shall cease practice as a nursing graduate:
(a) No later than 120 days after the date the nursing graduate submitted an application to the Board; or
(b) Immediately if the nursing graduate fails the second NCLEX examination.
A nursing graduate may not:
(a) Work without the physical presence of and direct supervision by a registered nurse;
(b) Refer to oneself or practice as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN);
(c) Be considered a staff person for purposes of a staffing pattern;
(d) Accept charge responsibilities; or
(e) Perform initial patient assessment or the first patient assessment of a shift, develop patient plans of care, evaluate or document patient discharge, or independently administer medications or intravenous therapy.

Staff Nurse - Acute Care of the Elderly (Med/Surg) - Part-Time - LHAAMC

Position Objective:
Contributes to the provision of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare as a provider of direct and indirect patient care and by effective of the health care team. Functions as a competent member of the health care team.
1. Clinical Decision Making/Judgment
- Demonstrates clinical nursing knowledge and skill in the specialization of the unit.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply the nursing process effectively in the care of culturally diverse patients and families. Demonstrates the ability to utilize all applicable laws, policies, standards, guidelines and evidence-based practice in the provision of patient/family care.
- Organizes and reprioritizes patient care activities based on subtle and overt and/or environmental changes.
- Consistently and thoroughly assesses patients to collect data and identify learning needs according to established standards and policies.
- Utilizes a systematic, continuous and complete analysis of assessment data to develop individualized problem lists for assigned patients.
- Develops and individualizes a plan of care for each patient in accordance with established standards, appropriate prioritization of problems/needs, and mutually agreed upon goals.
- Efficiently implements the patients plan of care in accordance with applicable standards, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Demonstrates proficiency in medication administration, pain management and other unit or initiative specific skills.
- Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of the plan(s) of care, making revisions and recommendations based on analysis of patient responses to interventions.

- Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement and evaluate teaching plans for patient populations in unit specialty in accordance with applicable standards.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge of growth and development across the life span to the care of patients.
- Provides direct patient care to patients and families in a culturally, developmentally and ethically appropriate manner.
- Plans of care address the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and learning needs of the patient/family.
3. Clinical Scholarship
- Participates in QI, CPI and risk management activities at the unit, department or organizational level.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively perform and improve all processes in order to achieve excellence with regard to Luminis Healths quality standards and benchmarks.
- Supports the use of evidence based guidelines and organizational policies and procedures to promote safe patient care and a safe practice environment.
4. Clinical Leadership
- Participates in unit shared governance according to departmental standards.
- Participates in the education and orientation of new staff.
- Delegates patient care activities as appropriate; evaluates delegated activities for expected patient care outcomes.
- Employs real time computer documentation when completing patient record.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Adherence to the credentialing requirements of Luminis Health as stated in the nursing bylaws.
- Where applicable, completion of a BSN is required within 5 years of date of hire
Required License/Certifications:
- Current licensure as a registered nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing
- BLS - American Heart Association Health Provider
- If serving as a bilingual/multilingual interpreter, certification in Medical Interpretation is required to perform the duties of a qualified interpreter.

ACLS Requirement:
The following department(s) require ACLS: Heart and Vascular Unit, Neuro Care Unit, ICU/IMU, Interventional Radiology, Postanesthesia Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, Resource Nurses, Emergency Department, Prep, Telemetry, Outpatient Infusion, DRCC Bowie, Observation Unit, Endoscopy, Procedural Care Unit, Cardiac Cath Lab, Flex Nursing Unit, Operating Room (LHDCMC only), Cardiac Cath Lab, Observation Unit, DCMC IP Mental Health, and Edwards Pre-Op and PACU.
New Grad and New to Specialty RN’s in ICU must get their ACLS within 6 months
Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification requirement:
Certification within 6 months of hire if experienced or within 1 year for new graduate nurse

NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation requirement:
