Job Description
We are searching for the best talent for a Principal Scientist, Nonclinical Surgery located in Cincinnati, OH.
Purpose: Functioning as a primary surgeon, with a primary focus on cardiovascular procedures, to provide surgical expertise and technical leadership during research, development, and evaluation of surgical devices using animate, inanimate, and cadaveric models. Performing surgical research & testing which support development of products or procedures in standard and minimally invasive surgery (open, laparoscopic, and robotic).
Under General Direction And In Accordance With All Applicable Federal, State And Local Laws/regulations And Corporate Johnson & Johnson, Procedures And Guidelines, This Position Will
• Conducting and / or directing surgical investigations for product development and preclinical evidence generation.
• Use scientific and surgical expertise to evaluate functionality, efficacy, and safety of medical devices during acquisition, licensure, discovery, development, and product change evaluations.
• Provide biomedical expertise by making unbiased recommendations to ETHICON teams regarding new technologies and interaction of device concepts on living tissue.
• Provide technical direction and execution within Preclinical Research for surgical investigation and development of medical devices.
• Collaborating with Preclinical Research team to apply clinically relevant models for product evaluation, while meeting preclinical study design, execution, and timeline requirements.
• Support the Preclinical Research team with the development of animal models.
• Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
• For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable
• Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
• Know & follow ETHICON policies & procedures related to work activities performed in area of responsibility.
• Utilize interpersonal skills and collaboration to enhance team processes and drive surgical efficiency/quality within Preclinical Research, ETHICON, and J&J.
• Function as key Preclinical Research team member by energetically supporting the goals of the department, ETHICON, and J&J by actively participating in and collaborating with the external scientific community.
• Performs other duties assigned as needed
Education
• A minimum of a Doctorate degree is highly preferred (DVM/VMD from an (AVMA) American Veterinary Medical Association accredited program; MD is also acceptable with significant preclinical experience)
• Surgical residency training and board certification (DACVS) is preferred.
• Certification as a Surgical Research Specialist (SRS) through the Academy of Surgical Research may also be considered based on experience level.
• Demonstrated knowledge of surgical principles and theory is required, with specific training in cardiovascular procedures also required.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in performing fluoroscopic angiography in large animals is required
• Experience in executing preclinical and/or clinical studies, including GLP, with external contract research organizations is preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the preclinical research team is required.
• Familiarity with Medical Device Product Development is preferred.
• Knowledge of preclinical regulatory requirements for FDA and notified bodies outside the US is preferred.

• Extensive knowledge of cardiovascular surgery as well as interventional procedures.
• Deep knowledge of animal and human anatomy and physiology, as well as biological systems.
• Demonstrated analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.

The Account Executive - Advanced Hemostasis and Healing will:

We are searching for the best talent for a Senior Engineer, Intra-Company Collaborations to support our Surgery group. This preferred location for this role is Raritan, NJ however the role may also be based in Cincinnati, OH. This role will work a Flex/Hybrid schedule with 3 days per week on-site. Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
Purpose: The Senior Engineer, Intra-Company Collaborations conducts research directed toward discovery and/or development on a large research and development project or several small projects with many complex features under minimal supervision using established and/or novel technologies. They provide hands-on work, with instruction or supervision of others secondary to own technical work, have basic knowledge in a specialized area that requires a grasp of involved practices and precedents, coordinates project/process management and reporting, and ensures relevant project timelines are met.
You will be responsible for:
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams in the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of wound closure devices, related products, and other novel medical devices, and be able to function as a team member as required.
• Play a hands-on role in conducting lab-based development activities, analyze and interpret performance and analytical data to guide product and process optimization, document research activities in accordance with design control requirements, and conduct all required research activities associated with development of new materials, components, raw materials, and processes for wound closure devices.
• Effectively apply state-of-the-art scientific technical acumen and technical leadership capabilities to conduct research toward design of new products, as well as supporting and improving (lifecycle management of) existing product offerings.
• Provide technical expertise, in terms of problem solving for technical and executional problems using advanced knowledge and experience. Contribute inventions, new designs, new processes, and techniques to solve technical problems based on customer needs.
• Identify opportunities for design and process improvements to achieve business goals.
• Ensure project timelines and all required project milestones are met.
• Conducts or manages research, analysis or processes within a larger R&D activity.
• May develop procedures and processes within broader protocols.
• May develop and implement standards for reporting and operations.
• May identity and implement process level efficiencies.
• Conduct research toward new product or process development or improvement of existing products or processes.
• Interact directly with customers (surgeons) to determine and identify unmet needs.

• May supervise or provide instruction to professional and technical employees.
• May be responsible for operating within a budget and may provide input on budget allocation and prioritization.

• For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable.
• Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Performs other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications / Requirements:
• Minimum of a Bachelors Degree is required, Advanced Degree strongly preferred. Mechanical Engineering background highly desired.
• At least 5-7+ years of related engineering experience required (3-5+ with Advanced Degree); Medical Device engineering experience strongly preferred.
• CAD (Solidworks or Creo) required, PLM (Windchill) strongly preferred.
• Ability to lead complex projects.
• Effective verbal communication (large and small groups); clear and concise written communication; decision-making without supervisory input; effective team interaction with personnel or other divisions and companies.
• Must deal with abstract and complex “cause and effect” relationships and make sound decisions, often with limited data, which impact product and facilities.
• Knowledge of and experience in applying scientific principles, analytical techniques, and judgment to independently resolve technical issues and establish new methods, controls & procedures is required.
• Knowledge of chemistry and physics, with demonstrated understanding of material characterization, structure-property relationships, formulation development and processing and utilization towards application development is preferred.
• Must be willing to work in a laboratory environment performing hands-on experiments and be able to clearly communicate findings (oral or written) to the project team.
• Broad knowledge of medical device product development and working knowledge of biocompatible materials and their application in medical devices, including familiarity with regulations and requirements for the development of implantable medical devices is preferred.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Familiarization with material and process specifications.
• Good interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office Software.
• Must be willing to work in a laboratory environment performing hands-on experiments and be able to clearly communicate findings (oral or written) to the project team.
• Travel: Up to 20% travel may be required.

The Foot & Ankle (F&A) Sales Consultant will be responsible for the growth and development of the F&A HCP customer base in an assigned geography. They must achieve a level of expertise and competence to present, demonstrate, and ensure proper utilization of DePuy Synthes' products. This person must be able to continually develop new business while supporting existing business within our F&A product portfolio.
As the key champion for the product portfolio in their geography, the F&A Sales Consultant actively collaborates with the Regional Sales Manager to create the business plan, targeting and overall market strategy relative to F&A, ensuring that financial targets are achieved within their geography.
Key Responsibilities and Focus:
Acquire expertise of F&A portfolio, all new F&A products and understand competitive product
Spearhead the selling of F&A product portfolio to new accounts and seek opportunities to increase sales with existing customers
Educate and informs surgeons and hospital staff as to the proper use of our F&A portfolio
Establish and build clinical relationships with key surgeons, clinicians, and evaluators
Case Coverage: Maintain appropriate surgeon/resident contact with all prospects or newly converted customers. Routinely provide support to F&A surgeons/DPMs and OR personnel during surgical cases, as required.
Perform F&A field calls for the accounts and assigned territory (including F&A "on-call" and operating/emergency room consultation) as needed
Collaborate with Trauma partners to effectively grow and develop F&A business within specific geographies
Inventory Management: Maintain JnJ sales equipment and promotional materials in proper condition and use them to support territory efforts consistent with company policies and procedures.
Ensure timely product delivery to surgery site
Achieve Business Plan Objectives and sales goals/quotas through proper use of approved resources
Complete required administrative and other duties as assigned accurately and promptly
Accurately invoice customers for products
The F&A Sales Consultant is expected to learn, know and follow all laws, regulations, policies and procedures relative to the position and as stated in the policy and procedure manuals. The F&A Consultant will maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times. Promptly communicate all legal/ethical questions or concerns to supervisor or to the Health Care Compliance and/or Legal Department.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
One of the following:
Bachelor's degree or higher PLUS a minimum of 2 years' experience OR
Associates degree and/or Certified Surgical Technician PLUS 6 years related experience such as F&A, Trauma, and/or Orthopedics OR
Recently Transitioned Active Duty Military
AND
A minimum of 3 years of selling, account management or related experience. Military experience will be considered.
The ability to work in a lab/operating room environment.
Strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a high level of technical acumen and in a hospital environment, negotiation, influencing, strategic thinking, problem solving, and business acumen skills.
Qualified candidates must be self-motivated and have excellent relationship building skills.

Ability to work in matrix and team structure
A valid driver's license issued in the United States
The ability to travel as needed.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
100% commissions with a draw on $70,000 bi-weekly plus eligibility to participate in an incentive program
