Responsibilities Assesses abilities and capabilities of individual students; develops, organizes, and implements lesson plans and activities that are individual-specific, meet the learning needs of each student, encourage increased skills, and address specific IEP goals Monitors existing IEPs to ensure that stated educational goals and objectives are appropriate, achievable, and continue to meet the educational needs of individual students Recommends appropriate modifications to the existing IEP May conduct parent training in the classroom and at home Utilize the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis throughout observation, intervention, data collection, and assessment Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and eligibility for formal certification such as N.J. Teacher of Disabilities (or of the Handicapped) required. Minimum of one year of teaching experience in special education preferred Eligibility for Highly-Qualified Teacher status required. Knowledge of teaching methods and educational programs designed for students with learning, physical and behavior disabilities. Effective teaching and facilitation skills required. Responsibilities How You Can Make a Real Impact: The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for planning, monitoring and implementing an instructional lesson plan, of high quality, that is in alignment with the NJ Student Learning Standards in all core subjects. Ability to make appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with multiple disabilities.
