Responsibilities Provides direct and consultative treatment services in occupational therapy to students, including: Effectively utilizes available information regarding therapy and treatment. Provides assistance in the development of occupational therapy and treatment-specific goals and objectives. Assists program management in the design of functional strategies and the need for adaptive equipment that enhances learning and creates an environment best suited to the student's profile and needs. Provides individual, group, and integrated direct treatment and therapy. Prompts and/or assists each person in the achievement of goals while actively encouraging the independence and competency of each person within his/her ability limit; Plans and schedules frequency and duration of sessions in accordance with students' needs; Provides suggestions regarding the utilization of techniques and/or materials to support and enhance academic and functional abilities. Recommends appropriate adaptive equipment to facilitate optimal functioning, provides recommendations regarding positioning, identifies barriers that may impede a student's progress, and recommends environmental accommodations to support functioning and facilitate the carryover of therapeutic goals; Demonstrates and instructs students and staff in the proper use of functional and adaptive equipment, devices, and occupational therapy strategies and techniques to further the fine motor, sensory, neuromuscular, visual motor/perceptual, and self-care skills; e.g., computer use, positioning and feeding equipment, handwriting strategies, manual therapy techniques, etc.. Facilitates a team approach to program development, implementation, and monitoring by effectively collaborating with all specialty/clinical disciplines, parents/guardians, residential and day program staff, etc., to identify and best meet the students' needs. Actively participates in regular classroom, team, departmental and school meetings, serves as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Responsibilities Provide direct and consultative speech-language therapy services to students with communication and oral motor disorders in accordance with applicable regulations and standards, including DDD, ASHA, HIPAA, NJ DOE, and organizational policies, as well as each student’s IEP, IPP, and behavior plan. Conduct comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to assess communication and oral motor needs, including determining the need for therapeutic intervention, level of functioning, and overall performance. Collaborate with audiologists and other professionals to review records, interpret audiological data, and develop appropriate therapy recommendations and service delivery plans. Perform ongoing reassessments to monitor student progress and adjust treatment plans based on identified areas of need. Assist in the development of measurable, achievable, and educationally relevant goals related to communication and oral motor skills. Deliver individual, group, and integrated therapy sessions, while also providing consultation and support to families, caregivers, educators, and staff. Partner with faculty to design and implement classroom strategies that support student learning and align with individual communication needs; may assist with classroom instruction as appropriate. Promote student independence and skill development by supporting goal achievement and encouraging functional communication within each student’s abilities. Plan and schedule therapy sessions in alignment with student needs and school district requirements. Recommend and support the use of assistive and augmentative communication devices, classroom accommodations, and environmental modifications to enhance student access and participation. Identify barriers to learning and provide actionable recommendations to improve student engagement and support the carryover of therapeutic goals across settings. Qualifications Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology with a National Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred. N.J. State Department of Education Certification as Speech Language Therapist required. Prior work experience as Speech Language Specialist in Special Education, and Augmentative Communication Devices and Assistive Technology required. Department of Education (DOE), Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), the students’ Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individual Education Plan (IEP), the students’ approved behavior plan, Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA), and established Bancroft policies and procedures.
