For additional information, click here. Qualifications EDUCATION Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling or related discipline. Required Doctorate in Psychology, Counseling or related discipline. Preferred LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Certification in alcohol and drug treatment counseling. Preferred EXPERIENCE One (1) to three (3) years full-time work experience as a counselor preferably in a higher education setting. Required Experience in providing alcohol & drug treatment counseling/programming. Required Experience dealing directly with risk management/crisis intervention counseling. Required Academic advising experience at the postsecondary level. Required Experience in conducting group counseling/support groups. Required Work experience in the development and implementation of treatment plans and the knowledge base needed to interpret DSM IV TR diagnosis. Preferred Experience with development and implementation of career/personal development programming for the student residence life population. Preferred Experience in the use of computer career guidance systems. Preferred Experience in the area of developmental education. Preferred Experience using the Career Assessment Inventory, CAI. Preferred ABILITIES AND SKILLS Strong crisis assessment and crisis management skills. Required Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, parents/family members, faculty/staff and the public. Required Demonstrated understanding of ethical and legal issues in mental health practice. Required Ability to work as part of a team in a stressful environment. Required Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with interfacing departments. Required Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, parents/family members, and faculty/staff. Required Excellent oral and written communication skills. Required Functional ability with computers and requisite software packages, and experience with electronic scheduling and record-keeping systems. Preferred Responsibilities Provide assessment and timelimited counseling and psychotherapy for students. Develop and provide group counseling and psychotherapy through general therapy groups or groups that address a specific clinical issue or in response to the needs of a particular group of students. Provide a wide range of campus outreach through programs, workshops, and trainings related to wellness and mental health topics to students, staff, and the community. Consult with parents, faculty, academic deans, residence life staff, health services, disability services, other campus offices, and students when appropriate and with appropriate authorization to provide quality care to students. Provide oversight, case management, and consultation to interns and practicum students. Assist the supervisor in marketing and publicizing department activities and programs. Assist the supervisor in evaluation and outcomes assessment projects. Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics/documentation of therapeutic and other client contacts. Follow ethical and professional practices of the counseling profession to include maintaining confidentiality. Responsible for office coverage on various days/evenings as necessary. Provide crisisintervention counseling and follow professional referral protocol as appropriate, including daytime and evening/weekend services as needed. Participate in the December, May or August Commencement ceremonies and Spring and/or Fall Open House. Develop and deliver psychoeducational programs that facilitate student development. Be a regular presence in the College's Residence Life program to provide onlocation programming. Participate in Student Affairs major event activities such as Connections, Student Recognition activities, Residence Life programs, Health and Wellness programming, etc. Participate in weekly staff meetings and case review. Participate in internal and external staff development activities. Contribute to the betterment of the College through departmental committee participation. Engage in professional development and technological upgrading activities. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Contribute to the betterment of the College through Collegewide committee participation. Assist the supervisor with the preparation of grant proposals. Assist the supervisor in the selection, procurement, and cataloging of counseling and mental health materials.
